house: insulated!

Published Jul. 1, 2008

We got the OK from the Jo. Co. Inspection that we could begin insulation.  We'd thought about doing this ourselves, but changed our mind.  Boy am I glad we did!!!  We hired Tatum Insulation to install the insulation.  They did a fantastic job and they were FAST!

The guys were there for just one day and they not only had the house insulated, but did some sound-proofing for us as well.  There is NO way we would have been able to do it all this quickly.  It was interesting to watch them work, especially in the garage.  I was curious to know how they'd get the ceiling.  They made it look easy, but I'm not convinced!  I think it's just a matter of knowing what you're doing!

I've added pictures inside the house.  There are two new image galleries (links below).  I was asked to include some early pictures of the inside as well as some views from the house.

We were supposed to have our inspection today for insulation, but there was a mix up.  So keep your fingers crossed for the inspection tomorrow!  If all goes well, dry wall is next!  WOO HOO!!!!!

BTW, shout out to Yougottabekidding  - was I talking with you about garage doors?  If so, let me know.  I think we are ready to start looking at those now, also!

Rocknhorse,

I asked for these pict from the inside. Waiting for views from the porch or windows.

Ed (cuzin lukey)

We're keeping the main part of the house original, but we did convert the living room (or den) into the master bedroom and we've added a wing on the side for the master bath/closet. There was already a wing on the right w/a single-story roof. It was the kitchen. We raised the roof for the access to the bonus room (over the garage we added). Other than that, we're keeping it as close to original as possible. We've saved all the doors, trim, railings, cedar from the closets, kitchen cabinets...

We live in Southern JOCO. My husband and I wondered what would happen to the house. We're glad the structure stayed in the family. We were installing cabinets in an old house near there when you began the move. This house is right off Hwy 50 on the Benson side of Mcgee's and the owners added a small addition and expanded the kitchen. They kept the house's character but made it more comfortable and useable. Lots of work but lots of satisfaction also.

Yes, this is the house that used to be at McGee's Crossroads. It belonged to my husband's grandmother and was built by his great-grandfather. We've had a lot of fun saving it and we can't wait to finally be living in it. Lots of previous memories and plenty of new memories to make!!!

I'm behind--Is that house from McGee's X-roads? Love the work your doing. Pink rooms can be beautiful. I'm the only girl in a house full of boys (5 including my hubby) and my sweet husband painted our bedroom the palest pink. The paint job makes up for the constant battle with the dirt and smell the male of the species brings around. We're reworking my husband's home place. I hate it but we're living in it as we go. When the job gets unnerving just look at your photos and breath in a big sigh and say tomorrow. Good luck.

We were talking today and I wanted to make sure I had the right person! I met so many wonderful people today!!!

Rockn - those pics are amazing. You should be so proud!!!!!

Scott - yougottabekidding - has his own garage door company.

Yeah!!!!!!!!! I was hoping to hear this!!!

YAYAYAYAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
