surpise! socks made in the usa!
Published Jul. 1, 2008The wife and kids asked me to come along on one of my least favorite activities; shopping at Target on a Saturday. I grumbled a little but in the interest of family time and fellowship I went along. They do pay a price for my companionship. Whenever I am in a place like Target I make a point to show them where most of the products we buy are made. Most the time the answer is obvious, China, China and China. They find it irritating but I guess my sweet smile makes it all worth it :-).
My son and I were shopping for socks, and he grimaced at me for pointing out some socks made in Malaysia. I was about to annoy him some more when to my shock(and his relief) I saw the rare “Made in the USA” stamp on a pack of Hanes socks. Upon further review I noted that the whole rack of Hanes socks had “Made in the USA” on them. That was the first time in eons that I had seen finished textile products made in the USA at a big box store (understanding that I avoid box stores as often as I can).
I would love to believe that this is a trend and there will be more such products but reality tells me it is probably a remnant. For now I give kudos to Hanes Inc for making a product in this country.
