1931 black & white classic...the first sound movie (in german) done by fritz lang...it is subtitled. Introduces music as a drama or suspense element.
The story is one of good and evil. A child murder is stalking the children. He can not be found. Both the police and the underworld are looking for him, as he continues to prey on the children. Young girls being found murdered. The viewer of course never sees any violence on the screen, it is all left to your imagination. the plot unfolds slowly but with great drama. Peter Lorre plays the child killer convincingly.
He is captured by the underworld, who try to pass judgement on him. His lawyer, again from the underworld, pleads his case, the murderer who wants to stop but can't. the turmoil of hating what you are...great social issues are debated, who is responsible, the killer or the society?
I give this movie 5 stars out of 5 stars. Great directing, great acting, great story. Take the time to find his on DVD.
