12. Boats don't care about how many other boats you have ridden.
13. When riding, you and your boat both arrive at the same time.

We have had our boat ten years and only twice has it needed any serious repairs. The first time, I fixed it myself -- a solenoid for the outdrive hydraulics failed. Took longer to order the part than it did to fix it. The second, the starter failed and Chatlee had to pull the motor because they rounded a bolt taking the old starter off. Considering that the engine in a Chevy 6 cylinder, that's pretty good.
A boat is like a car or anything else: you get a good one, and take care of it, it will take care of you. You get a piece of junk or don't take care of it, expect it to fall apart. Knowing how to turn a wrench doesn't hurt either. You don't REALLY need to pay someone to change the oil, for example.
