RECOGNIZING NATIONAL HIV TESTING DAY AND 25th ANNIVERSARY OF THE NAPWA

The Alliance of AIDS Services will join NAPWA in ringing open NASDAQ bell, Friday, June 27, 2008

To recognize the 25th Anniversary of the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) and the 13th Annual National HIV Testing Day, senior management of Raleigh-based Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina (The Alliance)—Jacquelyn Clymore, Executive Director; John Paul Womble, Director of Development and Public Relations; and William Seagroves, Director of Finance—will join NAPWA and other AIDS service agencies in ringing the opening bell for NASDAQ, Friday, June 27 at 9:30 AM (EDT).

A live webcast of the Opening Bell can be viewed at www.nasdaq.com/about/marketsitetowervideo.asx

NASDAQ is the largest U.S. electronic stock market. With approximately 3,200 companies, it lists more companies and, on average, trades more shares per day than any other U.S. market. It is home to companies that are leaders across all areas of business, including technology, retail, communications, financial services, transportation, media and biotechnology. NASDAQ is the primary market for trading NASDAQ-listed stocks.

NAPWA was founded in 1983 by members of the Patient Advisory Committee of the Second National AIDS Forum, held in Denver, Colorado.  NAPWA is the oldest national AIDS organization in the United States, as well as the first network of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world. NAPWA started National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) in 1995. Every year, on June 27, local organizations across the nation engage with communities to promote early diagnosis and HIV-testing.

The Alliance was founded in 1999 after the merger of the AIDS Service Agency of North Carolina, AIDS Service Agency of Orange County and Triangle Interfaith Network and serves over 1100 clients in Wake, Durham and Orange Counties.  The Alliance operates two housing and care facilities, provides food bank services, as well as extensive faith ministry, client, prevention, testing and education services across its service area.

Further information may be obtained by contacting John Paul Womble at (919) 834-2437 or johnpaul.womble@aas-c.org.

Sticking your head in the sand doesn't make something disappear. HIV and AIDS are here to stay and the only way to combat the spread is education and pro-active measures. Congratulations to The Alliance for well deserved recognition.

It most certainly is news, and like Keith said, it's an honor for any local company to be selected to ring in the session. jmuller2, also good point about the perception being skewed because of the more effective drugs. There is NO cure for HIV disease, so prevention and awareness education is so necessary. And white collar or not, ANYBODY who works in the health and human services field to work toward change and wiping out any disease is making a worthwhile effort. Better to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak, and work to make changes rather than just sitting at home complaining and offering no solution or support.

It's an honor to be chosen to ring the bell either at NASDAQ or NYSE for any company or organization.

Congratulations AAS-C for being recognized for the trully worthwhile work you guys do. You guys rock!

I'll be watching tomorrow.

Did I miss something or is this blog about White Collar workers who work for AIDS ringing a bell at Nasdaq..I did just skim the story,as I am not into functions of sorts. Is this news?

Way to go, AAS-C! With the advent of drugs and new methods of treating the symptoms, HIV and AIDS appears by some to have been "cured." There is still NO cure. Ignorance and denial are the largest culprits in hastening this disease, and I hope people take seriously National AIDS Testing Day.

That's great! Anything to raise awareness! ! !

Thanks Angela. I'll be watching, too. My father-in-law was instrumental in the development and production of AZT, so my family has long been involved with HIV/AIDS prevention, eductation, and legislative support. This is a great activity to bring attention to the importance of being tested. The face of HIV/AIDS has certainly changed over the last quarter-century, and sadly the numbers continue to rise in new diagnosis.

Fathering Liberals is W's fault.

Aids is Dubya's fault...

That's great news. I'll be sure to catch the webcast. I'd love to hear about the experience when they return. -Angela
