4 day work week- here i come!!!!

Published Jun. 26, 2008

So- my company is moving forward with a 4 day work week. My hours will be 7am-6pm. Am I ludicrious? Have a lost my mind? Is this REALLY what I want to do? I still don't know.... but I am jumping in head first and embrassing the opportunity to have a 3 day weekend permanently. (We can always switch back if we don't like it!) We're doing it, of course, because of the gas prices. Brace your self: based on the average gas price of $4/gallon, I might just save $200 dollars in a year!!! Collectively: OOOOHHHHH, AAAAHHHHH, OOOOWWWW

Anyone else considering this work lifestyle change? Anyone already doing it?

Fortunately, I have a job that does not require me to come into the office every day. I used to average a couple times a month working at home. Now I average a couple times a week. It is saving me a ton of money.

Yeah, you have to come in a little earlier and you stay an hour later. What's an hour later going to do? The only bad thing is if you have kids in sports and they have a 6:00 or 6:30 game and you work until 6:00.

.I worked at a place once and had 30 women under me (don't go there, besides I wouldn't have but one or two of these. . never mind) and the company let us vote on 5 - 8's or 4 - 10's. To my surprise and disappointment they voted for the 5 day option. I don't get it.

I've done it too, but not now. Since a work day pretty much shoots the whole day anyway making it a little longer really wasn't a big deal at all. HOWEVER the 3 day weekends were a VERY BIG DEAL. (I am sooo jealous)

Enjoy!

I would love to work a 4 day week. I think we should do this anyway, only have a 32 hour work week. Unfortunately, my schedule won't let me do it now because I have to leave early Tuesdays to stay at home with my infant son. So, I have to use the rest of the week to make up time. I would actually like to work from home, and there is no reason I couldn't do my job at home. But my supervisor won't let me.

I work 4 days a week, 10 hrs a day, and love it. It saves me over $500 per year on gas, plus wear and tear on my car, plus it means one day less that I have to deal with office nonsense. It makes for a long day, and you may take a little time to get accustomed to it but worst case scenario, it doesn't work and you switch back. At least then you know it's not for you. My ideal would be to work from home, but unfortunately it isn't an option right now. I keep hoping.

I would love to do it. I work 56 miles (round trip) from where I live. They have started the four day work week here for delivery drivers to help save them money, but they would never try to help me save! :-)

We work 12hr shifts.. The days are long, but you have alot of time off.. I think you work 15days a month.. It's pretty cool..

I worked 4 hr work weeks in RTP in the late 90's... personally I loved it... it was really a 4 day, 3 the next, 12-hr shifts

used to do a 3 day work week as and EMT. It was great. Was able to easily hold down a second job.
