house: closer every minute

Published Jun. 25, 2008

OK, so I couldn't stand it.  I had to post this picture.  I wanted to wait until that last little bit was finished around the oval.  That replacement window was supposed to be delivered today and we'd get that last little bit finished, but it didn't show up.  GRRRR!!!!

On a good note, we did have our second framing inspection.  We got dinged again, but just one thing and it's minor.  I went inside to look and can't believe we missed it.  It was one of those "DOH!" moments.  We did get the go ahead for beginning insulation.  WOO HOO!!!!!  After that, it's dry wall!

I've enjoyed the learning process of this project very much.  It's been interesting and we've created some good memories for us and the kids.  We've worked hard to create something that we should ALL be proud of.  But it's been like walking through a tunnel and now I can finally see a small light showing me that we're almost to the end.

Regarding the house;

Looking at wrought iron railings and black shutters.  At the suggestion of Sessy, I'm going to look at batten board shutters.

There will be 2 ceiling fans on the porch and canned lights on either side, flood lights off the front corners and sconces on either side of the door.

We're thinking a dark oak stain on the door.

I'm going to post some old pictures along with some recent to show the progress.  It's kind of shocking to go back and look at pics from the beginning of this.  It sure has changed a lot!

rocknhorse..im gonna have to dig through some of your galleries and old blogs then...i love stuff like this

you are not painting anything red are you ?

red for the door..red shutters...make the colors pop out..its too mundane...as is...even with the dark oak..did i mention red is my favorite color...as in red door...red living room walls....sometimes you need to resist the urge to paint things red...but they were colorful after the black walls.

I have the porch reinforced to hold a 4' porch swing in front of the oval window! I was actually going back through my older comments looking for your info!

It looks great..... but wait....there's something missing !!!!

could it be? .... yes, one of my famous Porch Swings! (lol)

Beautiful!

I've been posting pics all along the way. If you go back to the older pics in my galleries, you'll see some of the interior shots. I didn't get as many as I wish now before destruction/construction began. But I'll be taking plenty as we proceed with inside. The most notable feature inside is the staircase. I also personally love the kitchen cabinets.

FYI, for those who don't know, this house was originally built by my husband's great-grandfather, so it's a family heirloom as well! We've had so much fun uncovering walls and finding signatures, music pages (from a hymn book?), jars, broken china... We're leaving our own 'imprint' in the walls for the next people who want to take on a challenge. Those walls will continue to talk!

That is a beautiful house. Congratulations!!

cant wait! the image gallery is nice..shows a lot of hard work! youll have to put some interior pics up when you can..bet you cant wait to move in!

slick rick, wait til you see the inside!
