meth lab busted in raleigh motel
Published Jun. 25, 2008Raleigh, N.C. — A husband and wife have been charged with operating a methamphetamine lab in a motel room off Wake Forest Road, authorities said Tuesday.
Rodney Ralph and Winifred Ralph have been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of precursor chemicals for methamphetamine and possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine, authorities said.
Wake County deputies and State Bureau of Investigation agents searched a room at the Homestead Studio Suites, 3500 Wake Forest Road, last Thursday night and an SUV in the motel parking lot and found materials authorities said are commonly found at methamphetamine labs, including cold medicine, drain cleaner, coffee filters and a propane burner.
The Ralphs have been at the Wake County jail since Friday. Rodney Ralph is expected to appear in court Wednesday at 9 a.m. Winifred Ralph's court date is July 8.
The article is not clear about if the lab was operational or not. If the lab was operational, aren't there many steps to cleaning an area after it's been used as a meth lab? Isn't the site considered toxic? I wonder what will happen to the hotel property now...

That's just it - the story is incomplete. There are some unreported facts, because those items alone won't make meth.
I would say that if the hotel is open then undoubtedly it has been deemed safe after a HazMat team checked it out.

Ostensibly, you would need other materials used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, for example (but not limited to) red phosphorus, iodine, sulphuric acid, etc. The ingredients listed would not transform pseudoephedrine to methamphetamine. I also note that the story does not mention any chemical equipment or other implements.
It will be interesting to hear the rest, if the media reports it. Like I said, there has to be more.
