Man tries to rob store with palm tree frond
(OK...I had to look it up...it's the compound leaf of the palm tree...in other words, part of a tree branch)
DELAND, FL -- A Florida man is charged with armed robbery after he tried to rob a convenience store with a palm tree frond.
The man entered the store with his shirt pulled over his face, demanded money from the clerk and threatened to stab him with the frond.
The employee then chased the man out with a bar stool.
Police arrested the suspect a short time later.

Other runner-ups included the guy who was arrested for putting his hair in a customer's steak...stupid but gross.
The guy who was arrested for carving a hole in a woman's couch in order to hide there and try to attack her when she got home...stupid but psycho stalkers are not so funny.
The guy who evades arrest by drowning...stupid but not can't find any humor in his death.
And, humor was what I was going for.
