My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Piccoult. This is from the back of the book: "Anna (Abigail Breslin) is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister Kate can somehow fight leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate-a life role that she has never challenged . . . until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister-and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for her sister she loves.
I read this book earlier this year, and still think about it now. Who was right, who was wrong? How far does a parent go to save the life of another child? If you think you know without a doubt where you stand on this issue, than I beseech you to read this book. I thought I knew where I stood on the issue, and after reading this book, I no longer have the same convictions I held before learning more about this issue. I gave this book 5 stars. This is the best book by far since reading “Shutter Island” By Dennis Lehane.
