I’ve had this thing rolling around in brain, not sure where it first started but just thought I would see if you can come with any others…
There are some products or services that we have become so accustomed to using the “brand” name it can now be substituted for the actual object.
For example: Kleenex – when you ask someone for a Kleenex you may get any brand. But many still ask for and use “Kleenexes” when any tissue will do. However, we don’t do this for PT or TP…kind of funny.
Also, Xerox – “I will go Xerox this”… When I think our machine at work is a Toshiba or something… Although I do think this is falling out of favor – I “copy” things more so than “Xerox” them.
And Kodak – How many refer to those “Kodak” moments – I do but I use a digital made by Cannon. But only the “Kodak moment” makes it – I don’t think most refer to the actual camera/film as a Kodak.
Coke – granted I am a Coke brand fan, but will drink Pepsi brand if no other choice. But I ask for a diet Coke not a diet soda.
What about Tivo – I personally hear more people that say they DVRed it…
Ipod – I have a MP3 player but it is not an Ipod, but I hear people referring to their Ipods when in fact they really mean MP3.
Anyone think of any more?
