So earlier tonight I get home and I’m walking down to the mail box to check the mail. Along the way, I see the neighbor kid lurking in the bushes. He’s got a plastic cutlass in his hand, a patch over one eye and he’s wearing a three corner hat with the old “Jolly Roger” on the front.
“Hey, Bill,” I said, “Whatcha doing?”
Bill glances over at me briefly. “Playing pirate,” he says before he goes back to peering through the bushes out at the street.
Now Billy has a couple of local cronies who always seem to be at his side. This is one of the few occasions I don’t see them around, so I ask him where they are.
“Well, where are you buccaneers?” I ask.
Billy stops looking through the bushes for a moment and gives me this funny look as he points at his head.
“They’re under the buckin’ hat,” he answers.
Kids. Ya gotta love ‘em.
