Pledge of Allegiance infringes on no one’s rights

Is anyone else sick of listening to people come up with reasons not to recite the Pledge of Allegiance — and to honor every religion other than the one professed by a majority of this nation’s population?

Another school announced this past week that the Pledge of Allegiance is too religiously focused to be recited in school — and that school officials are removing it from the morning agenda because its recitation might offend some of the students.

What??

Sometimes it honestly seems that some of the nation’s most brain-dead human beings are running some of the nation’s schools.

In an age when it is nearly impossible to get students to take any interest in their country’s future at all, why in the world would we tell them that the nation’s pledge of allegiance is an evil manifestation of the religious right?

Why wouldn’t we teach them the meaning behind the words and require them not only to know the pledge itself, but the history behind it as well?

The answer is simple: Political correctness.

The bottom line is that we are so afraid of offending one specific group, we are completely losing our own identity as Americans.

The Pledge of Allegiance is no more subversive than the national anthem or any other patriotic expression about what it means to be an American.

In fact, it teaches all kinds of important qualities — loyalty, patriotism, appreciation and responsibility as well as citizenship.

There is no way that could be considered anything but a good thing for children to learn.

And it should be a requirement for anyone who wants to be a citizen of this country.

There is nothing wrong with standing up for your right to believe — or to want to hold on to some aspects of your heritage if your origin is in another country.

But it is time that Americans stop apologizing for being Americans and tell those who have a disdain for this country’s principles and traditions that there are options other than remaining here.

There is nothing wrong with asking our children to know the pledge that honors those who fought to create this nation and those who continue to fight to keep it free.

And, by the way, there is nothing wrong with children of other faiths acknowledging the one that helped create this country — that is called tolerance.

Perhaps that is a lesson a few of the nation’s educators need to re-learn.

"Sometimes majority DOES need to rule. And I will gladly accomodate atheists as long as they keep their mouths shut and stay out of our civic business." - Steve Crisp

this phrase truly shows the ignorance, arrogance, and intolerance of views that differ from him. steve crisp continuously shows, through his various debates, that he does not believe that anyone should be allowed to enjoy the freedoms of this country, set forth by our constitution, unless they hold the exact same beliefs and values as him. he frequently makes baseless claims in his arguments in order to attempt to prove you wrong, yet, anytime that you back him into a corner, he runs and hides. steve crisp, the civic business of this country is just that, the civic business of this country, not just those that share the same beliefs as you. there is this beautiful thing that makes america what it is. it is called diversity. there are plenty of other places in this world that do not permit it...perhaps you should visit.

Easy fix: Remove the "under God" part from the Pledge, and it can be recited in schools.

How about a simple pledge: I pledge allegiance to the United States of America.

It is about holding the truths about our country near to our hearts. It is about showing respect for our country. It is about acknowleding EVERY word in it and pledging this to be true. Hence, a pledge.

look, recite the pledge of alligance or be marked as a terror suspect and get kicked out of our country. its not about anyone's religion, it is about pledging your alligance to this country. if you can't do that, then you need not be standing in it. If you are not an ali then you are an enemy. easy.

Professionals of credentials you and I could never dream of holding have never produced a solid piece of evidence that the occurances the Bible

How can one prove occurrences...... I suggest you watch the history station, discovery, and national geographic if you wish to find proof of some finding of ancient times which are mentioned in the bible. These are programs with research and proof of finding such as the dead scroll and etc that has gone on. The people of the period such as the kings tombs opened up, the relics are everywhere. I cannot prove hurricane hazel wiped up out but I can tell it in history because I witnessed it. Having it on paper is my only evidence.........

No. It's a flaw.

Night Pooh!

I am going to bed and coming to the conclusion that your panties (that's right, panties) are in a WAD tonight. Someone peed in your cheerios and stole your chocolate bars today. I have debated with you before, but have never seen this side before. I am going to assume it is not a character flaw, and it is just been a bad day..

Sounds good to me. It would make my life easier and that is all that matters.

Right now you are "fighting" this "battle" alone. I would hope that even if people believed in the theories you present, they would still realize that your methods are repressive and NOT representitive of what this country was founded on. O' right I disagree with you, so I should just shut up and continue to let you have your way.
