how much, part 2
Published Jun. 18, 2008So, basically, the whole point of my ealier blog was this:
I am very thankful I have a job with great benefits, decent pay, that gives me the chance to make a difference in a childs future. You won't hear many people just up and whine about how much they DON'T get paid, but when you start saying "(blank) doesn't deserve all that money they make because they only do (blank)"
MANY Golo'ers expressed that "Teachers don't deserve their pay (or a raise) because they only sit in a class with kids and turn out bigger idiots. Plus they get alllll summer off and only work 7:30-4."
I can argue all day about this. Its about RESEPECT and APPRECIATION for what people do for a LIVING. Some people were real jerks, and I am sure any one of you can tell me what you do, how much you get paid, and I can come up with why thats a waste of money!

I commend the teachers, as long as they do the job that they get paid for. I don't know what a reasonable salary would be, I have seen some of the scales, but I am sure it is well worth what they are being paid now, and then some for the teachers who produce good results.

And these people are the reason why North Carolina education has traditionally performed so poorly despite its reputation as a progressive state. NC taxpayers have always been hostile to education, except at the university level.
We get what we pay for, and we get what we deserve. If people only entered a profession because it brought them wealth or gave them respect, we wouldn't have as many teachers in NC as we do. We're fortunate that so many become teachers for truly altruistic reasons.
