If money is tight and you're trying to entertain on a budget, do kabobs. You'll be surprised how far you can stretch it.
Tenderize tough meats: by marinading in a mixture of bouillon and vinegar (wine vinegar is good).
Rub meat with oil and vinegar on both sides and let stand 2 hrs before cooking.
Before browing meats in a pan, sprinkle pan w/salt to prevent sticking.
Before broiling meat, place bread in the bottom of the pan to absorb the fat. This prevents smoking.
Roll link sausage in flour before cooking. This prevents them from cracking open.
If soup or stew is too salty, add slices of potato and let boil for several minutes. The potato will absorb the salt.
A leaf of lettuce dropped into a pot of boiling broth will absorb the grease from the top.
Soak wild game in milk to remove 'gamey' taste.
Clean fresh vegies in salt water to remove dirt better.
Cleaning copper-bottom pots: pour white vinegar on copper and then sprinkle table salt. Rub gently. This will restore the copper.
