"i'll never forget the time my dad...______"

Okay, I'll go first:

"I'll never forget the time my dad and I raced after my first year running track and I beat him, but he swore I didn't while complaining about a leg cramp."

In honor of Father's Day, let's recount the good, the bad and the funny. And remember, it's all in fun.

My dad died when I was 16, and he and I were just getting close.

RIP, Nathaniel Pryor!

I can't wait to hear your tales.

I don't remember the day itself, but I remember the story my daddy told me about it.

I was 18 mos old, living in a foster home, (my parents best friend sister house), My father was very tall 6'7. Kids where generally afraid of him. From what I understand, when they came to visit their friends sister that day, I wobbled out and reached up to my father to pick me up, he did, and I snuggled into him and called him Daddy. We had never met before. Tears streamed down his face, because children always ran from him and here was this toddler running to him calling him daddy. They were not looking for a child to adopt at that time, but I was looking for a family to adopt me. My adoption was finalized when I turned 3. I still run to my daddys arms today, and still feel that security.

I'll never forget the last thing my Dad said to me before he passed away. "This chicken tastes funny."

I miss you, Dad.

Post Easter egg hunt.... 1990 or do... My dad, despite my mom's warning, decided to heat up a hard boiled egg in the microwave with nowhere for air to escape, however he tries to defy physics not once, not twice, but three times...

Round one... He tries a minute or so... secs or so... determined to prove my mom wrong. My little bro and I were outside, but we heard the egg explode, while still inside the microwave! Sounded like a mortar exploding, then you can hear my mom shrieking in anger... He figures he just heated it too long, and but told my mom he wouldn't try it again...

He meant while she wasn't home... the next day, (my brother and I weren't going to miss this, you know what they say about those famuos last words... "hey watch this..."

(cont.)

Well even at 9 years old I understood the concept of microwaving items and the mechanics of the process, including WHY it produces air inside the item being heated. I warn my dad as my mom did the day before, but I didn't know what I was talking about . . . "I just used too much time yesterday" he states... He propomtly punches in 30 secs... and we watch...

Well whaddya know the egg makes it through the 30 secs... my dad reaches in to grab the egg and well he gets a lesson in surface tension. *BOOOM*... LoL! Talk about an explosion! The egg blew itself into particles... literally NOTHING left but a cloud of what was an egg... lol... That scared the bejeezus out of my lil brother, but I was DYING... but some people NEVER learn! lol... I go "see told you!" but I was propmptly countered with a "boy don't be laughing at your father" and another egg is loaded with the previous explanation... too much time and he sets it to 20 seconds... LMAO!

(cont... again!)

Well... the definition of insanity, to try the same thing over and over again, each time expecting different results...

Well the egg survives 20 secs... My dad looks at me with a big smirk... he reaches in and carefully grabs the egg... nothing happens... it is hot as all get out however... well at this point my dad had a look on his face, like victory was his for the taking. . .

Now with a look that kinda expressed "Mikey, here's egg or your (and my mom's) face", he lifts the egg to his mouth and just as he bites down *BLOOOOOOOM!*

I WAS FLOORED!!!

iT WAS LIKE A CARTOON!!! After a second or so he was still frozen in shock! LoL! The SHEER look of disbelief on his face was priceless! Esp. I after the "well here's egg on your face smirk of his... still half there... only I didn't have strands of egg confetti hanging from MY beard... LMAO! I couldn't resist it and I go, "It explodes in your mouth not in your hand." He just shook his head and laughed!

Studley! You owe me a new keyboard because I just squirted coffee through my nose due to your post!! ROTFL!!!!

I'll never forget the time my father and my family were sitting quietly at the dinner table getting ready to eat. We had just sat down and was fixing to say the blessing. I had a tall glass of milk sitting in front of me, so I grabbed it before we said the blessing and began sipping milk out of it. The glass was full to the rim. So there I was with my nose almost taking a milk bath sipping on the milk. Suddenly....SLAMMMM! My father slapped the bottom of the table scaring the mess out of me and the milk came flying out of that glass hitting me bullseye in the face. When that cold milk hit me in the face, it startled me and I did it again. I had milk running out of my nose, running down my hair, all over my clothes... I got mad, stormed out of the kitchen, went and took a shower, and changed clothes. And the whole time I was doing all this, the whole family was ROFLTBO st my expense!!! Pop was a prankster, and he have a lot of fun with us kids!

"My dad died when I was 16, and he and I were just getting close."

Angela - I am sorry fr your loss.

But you have made him proud!!!

My Dad died when I was 22 and 7 years later, I miss him just as much as I did then. I could write an incredibily long blog about the things I'll never forget...and I may do just that in a day or two when I have the time for the emotions that it all brings back but for now I'll say this:

I'll never forget his last words to me. He wasn't sick at all. He got up to go tow a car at 2 am and collapsed before he got out the door. He had a blood clot that had gone unnoticed evern at his annual checkup the week before. It was 2am on a Saturday morning. I had lived away from home for 3 years and my Daddy had never called me. I called home just about every other day and I went home for Sunday dinner every weekend. He had never called my house though.

I got home on Friday afternoon from work and saw he had called on my caller id. I remember thinking, "wow, that's odd" but I was in a hurry to go out Friday night so I didn't check the messages. He died that night. Continued...

It was several days later when I checked the messages and there was his.

"Hey baby, I just called to tell you I love you. See ya on Sunday."

I just typed this long thing and then wham it disappeared. Well i will sum it up like this... My dad gave mesome advice that I have taken to heart. He told me when I was dating my future wife this..."Son, love your mother, always look after her. You only have one Mother" I took this to heart. He would always call his momma every sunday and drive to see her every oer weekend when he could. He died in 2002. I never forgot his advice and I am glad.

...got blitzed at my wedding (it was a front yard type, reception was a barbeque) with his best friend. The two of them were being sentimental and falling all over each other, and at the end of the day, they talked the groom into driving the friend home - 45 miles away. The honeymoon had to be delayed. Dad still laughs about it to this day. So do I!

took us to Blackwater Falls for a day trip. This was one of the few trips we took other than Niagara Falls.I have so many other memories picking elder berries, black raspberries and all of the jokes he played. He was a card. He has been gone 6 years and love to talk about all of the great times we had. If your dad is still alive, let him know how special he is!

took us to Canada for 6 weeks every year! We would go up there and help a family with their tobacco crops. It was awesome. They had automatic tobacco tiers, bulk barns and the new-fangled tractors to sit in while you primed the stuff. It was no where near being that modern here yet. One year there was a radio/tv broadcast that a grizzly bear was loose in the area. That was scary! Those times were so great. He used to take us on vacations and never went on main roads. We always went the "back way". The main roads weren't scenic enough according to my daddy. We had so much fun. He never took us to the coast...it was always the mountain areas. I guess that's why I don't care for the beach now. He was a wonderful Daddy! We didn't have much, but we appreciated everything. He worked so hard to take care of us. I miss him so much! He was my ROCK! I could go to him with anything. Now...I AM my Daddy!

Many years ago I worked in a restaurant and my Dad would come in every Thursday for dinner. He always wore red t-shirts because that was the company color that he had drove truck for before he got injured. He had long white hair and a long white beard. Well Pop came in and sat at his usual table down in front by the window. As I was walking through the restaurant to see him I looked out of the window and this kid was peering in with his hands cupped around his eyes staring at my Pop with his mouth wide open. His parents appeared and the kid started jumping up and down and pointing, he thought my Dad was Santa. I love you Pop!

My Dad, who died in 2000 was a huge practical joker. I will never forget when he got the entire staff where he worked, a large Baptist church near Washington DC, to go outside to see a ufo. Another time my mom, dad, and I were on the way home in his car. We were about a half mile from home when all of a sudden the car cut off and we coasted to the side of the road. He said we were out of gas. We all started walking from home and were about a hundred yards from the car when he stopped, patted his pockets and said I've left the keys in the car. You guys keep walking and I'll catch up. As my mom and I kept walking we notice a car pull up next to us. Yep, my Dad, grinning ear to ear. Yeah I miss him.

I remember when my dad use to date my mom (they were married) and kick us all out of the house. My dad would first make us clean up and help him decorate the house for my mom. He is so creative. He would give us money and make us go to our grandmother's house, or drop us off at the skating rink until their date was over. LOL. My mom and dad were the lovey dovey type and they still are to this day. The new kids (the adopted ones) love to see them hug and kiss. The older kids (the biological ones) cant' stand it. Even on my wedding DVD when my dad kissed my mom I was like urgh! LOL. I'm glad to have parents like that ones the Lord blessed me with. My dad is the greatest father in the universe. LOL. He is the most humble man you'll know. Me loves my daddy. I'z a daddy's girl too! LOL.

I'll never forget the time my father saved a stranger from drowning. I was just a kid, maybe nine years old - we were at the beach, and I heard someone yelling way out in the surf - in no time flat, my father was rushing into the water - I can still see his skinny legs flashing as he dashed by me - he swam out to the drowning man (no one else did) and dragged him back to shore. Then he pumped on the man's back until he coughed up and started breathing - he saved the guy's life. It never made the news, he never got any kind of recognition for it, but I'll never forget it. He's 86 years old now - a true unsung hero.

I was in a miserable marriage, with me doing the giving and him doing the taking. My dad is not one to interfere, although it might crush him to be silent about matters and those dear to his heart.

One evening, he and I were doing dishes, and he said very innocently, "you two have trouble getting along sometimes, don't you?" I replied in the affirmative.

My dad simply said, "there's enough room in this world for everyone to be happy".

In that short statement, he told me everything I needed to know about reclaiming my life and my happiness, and never got close to being nosy, or imposing his views on me.

That's the best advice I have EVER gotten, from the finest man in the world!
