gas prices

Published Jun. 2, 2008

I actually feel a visceral reaction to people I see at the pump that are only putting in one or two dollars worth of gas.I am not a bleeding heart. I am aware that most waste their money on meainingless things. This blog is for those who aren't wasteful, but those who are paycheck to paycheck. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I am fortunate enough not to have to be one of them. Put yourself in someone else's shoes for a minute. Payday isn't until Friday and you're hoping like hell that your gas tank will stretch until then. Then, it doesn't. Instead of blogging about what idiots they are, how about blog about how fortunate you are!

I don't make a lot of money, but enough to get by and support my family. It has come at a cost. We have budgeted and gave up things. Maybe the digital tier 2 cable package is too much and you should cut back to basic. Don't buy the most expensive brand of cheese, buy the generic brand. Something needs to be put into check for some people. Not everybody is going to be rich.

ps. I have MANY times in the past, before I got a better job, had to budget my money for gas and food. I have NEVER run out of gas because I had no gas money, and YES, I've worked for minimum wage in the past... it was 3.35 an hour back then. I'm not being critical of people. I feel for them. I just think that instead of whining about gas or driving around on fumes hoping that Jesus will part the oil fields and provide a gas tank bounty, it might be good to just scape up some cash, fill up the tank and drive NOWHERE that isn't necessary. In fact, I coast a lot. I also keep my MPH down as low as I can do safely. I don't brake quickly unless it is to avoid an accident, nor do I take off like a bat outta hell from a stoplight. Every little bit helps!

bless,

Since I'm the only one who has posted a blog about the people running out of gas because they're not filling up their tanks, I'm gonna assume this was your way of saying that you think I'm being a jerk.

I'm not.

I'm a single parent. I have 3 kids, one of which is about to graduate from high school next weekend.

My ex husband pays me NO child support, and I've been in college forever, so I can make a decent living and support my family.

I will probably be in debt forever, paying off student loans.

I sold my SUV and bought a small, fuel-efficient car... 2 weeks ago, actually.

I have a house and a mortgage, and I've got a little money in the bank, but I'm not loaded. I'd say I'm about a paycheck away from living paycheck to paycheck, unless I dip into my meager savings, or crack into my retirement money.

My point (I have one) is that people have GOT to figure out ways to economize. It's crazy to drive around on fumes.

We all do whatever we must to make ends meet.

I agree. I am fortunate to not have to choose between eating and buying gas. But I know many people who are virtually at that point. I truly wish I lived closer to my job though. I have to make a decision now and it looks like I will have to search really hard for a job closer to my home. The gas prices are causing me to have to worry about my children's extracurricular activities and I don't want to do that. I hate to leave my company though. I've been there for 12 years.

They are probably topping off their full tanks, considering every day they fill up to be an investment...face it, by doing that they are making up to 300% a year on their money.

Thank you for putting it so eloquently.......Go girl go

LMAO

Ya...well, Packy :-) I'm lovin' it right now...I'll have to have hubby take a picture of me on it some day....I look so cool! LOL

BlessYourHeart, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Thanks for taking the time to post this blog. It is 100% true!

Yeah Packy. Don't you dare try and give me a good reputation.

Thank you Willow. Just FYI, I will probably repost this tomorrow, so ya'll just ignore it...k?
