cavemen discovered living in squalor in s. america - compassionate liberals want to leave them that way

One of South America's few remaining uncontacted indigenous tribes has been spotted and photographed on the border between Brazil and Peru. The Brazilian government says it took the images to prove the tribe exists and help protect its land. Stephen Corry, the director of the group - which supports tribal people around the world - said such tribes would "soon be made extinct" if their land was not protected.  "This is very important because there are some who doubt their existence."

He described the threats to such tribes and their land as "a monumental crime against the natural world" and "further testimony to the complete irrationality with which we, the 'civilised' ones, treat the world".

Am I missing something?  These people are living in the Stone Ages and these pointy-heads think that lifestyle should be "preserved"?  Who the hell do they think they are to make that decision?  Do they think, given a choice, these people wouldn't leap at a chance for electricty, running water, canned food and, oh I don't know, A LITTLE HYGENE?

Why bother them, are they bothering anyone?

Um actually oldschool, I think they prefer to be left alone! I would almost bet my last paycheck that if you even LIVED after encountering them, you would find out that they have no desire for Internet, running water, electricity, etc.. they have no clue what it is and it is probably best left alone! I actually think it is neat that people still have these types of communities in the world, it is definitely unheard of here in the U.S. I actually know so mormon's that do not have TV, Internet, or Radio's in the house, even though its not that extreme, I couldnt live without all of the above!

These people can protect themselves. MSNBC had a slideshow posted on the net. In one of the pictures they had bow & arrows pointed at the plane ready to shoot. I don't know who would be in trouble more if people try to intervene the tribe or us civilized people.

I think that they would rather be left alone. The only stress that they probably have is gathering and hunting. No worry about all of the diseases that we would expose them to if we try to go in and "civilize them". I would rather be left alone if I was there.

Yeah, Oldschool, I think maybe you are. And I think it's very easy to do - the personal hygiene issue certainly has its charms.

The "civilized" world's history of behavior when confronted with cultures and life styles that differ has never been greatly beneficial to the newly discovereds.

Once contact has been made - and in this case it has been - the people should be free to move in and out of our "culture" as they see fit. If they want to join it... okay. If not... that's okay too.

Othewise, it's slavery of a sort.

The Amish are an example of a people who know all about our ways and want no part of them. I think it's a mistake to assume that we'd be saving this tribe from themselves or that our interference would be welcomed.

I agree with OS. They should be shown hospitals, schools etc and given a choice - Join the 21th century or stay as you are. But the women and children should certainly be given the option of improving their health.

.... leave 'em alone. But that will not happen.

Okay, everybody who disagrees with me: Let's put it this way - if these people were living like this in America, would you say the same thing? Or would you expect Social Services to go in and at least get the malnourished, vermin infested, disease ridden children out of there?

No it will not mrkagain. They have peeked the worlds interest and now some people will want to "show them civilization" which will basically cause the tribe to be wiped out. If they even stepped foot in our society they have no ideas or foundation to base living on. They would not be immune to our diseases, or be accustom to our way of life including the food and laws. They would end up dead or in a prison cell somewhere after they had a terrible case of cultural shock! Its not like they will understand or be acceptive of "hey, lets go see a Dr." They have no clue what any of that stuff is!
