eight things that "confuse" folks about bank accounts

Published May. 29, 2008

1. check book registers

2. havings checks does not = having money

3. math (subtraction and addition)

4. just because you mailed a check but it hasn't paid yet doesn't mean you have money in your account. Reference check book registers here.

5. bank employees do not have crystal balls.

6. just because a check bounces, it does not mean "someone" has "stolen" money from your account. Again, reference check book registers.

7. do not post date checks

8. do not mail checks in advance of an automatic deposit that is "supposed" to come on XX day.

When I worked in the bank...seriously..it was men who scammed us most. They would make fake business accounts..go to different branches, making "deposits" with bad checks only to turn around and go to a different branch to withdraw funds on said account, before that deposited check could "clear".

Yeah, the Smooth Operator. I am the brick wall that will not allow that. I stick to regs because no amount of money or check you want me to 'take care of' is worth my job.

And I don't play the whole 'well, I don't have my ID, but so and so knows me.' forget that...

Well, I would say it is the "MO" if you will, of anyone trying to pull something to act loud and hateful. So, they think if they're rude and nasty enough, you'll give them what they want to make them get out. That may work better in retail than in banks though. There is only so much we can "give" you here. The truth of the matter is you really have to be on guard all the time because for every nervous nelly you have, you can also encounter the cool customers who are going to try and outsmart you for something. (fraud refunds they do not deserve, fee refunds they do not deserve, cashing checks that really shouldn't be cashed, etc)

But Steve, that's clothes...not everyone wants something new that bad...but money? Yeah, pretty much everyone wants that.

The reason I asked is that with the folks I know in retail, they tell me that they dread the overweight, loud, black woman. It seems that is the overwhelming stereotype of people who try to pull refund scams, tag switch cons, and the like.

Agreed. but you can usually tell cause they're very nervous. Had one lady earlier today I had to deny service to. No ID. Shakin like a leaf 'but I just need five dollars' yarite lady...see ya.

In my experience, its pretty equal. Truely. Doofy comes in all races and all sexes. :-)

OK ladies who work in banks. I have a serious question for you and I don't intend to start a race war with it.

When you have a customer who is obviously trying to pull a scam or weasel out of something stupid they did, are they more likely to be white or black? Men or women?

Dandy, do you work next door to me?? haha _____________________

OH and, customers, please do not "tell" me you did NOT take funds out at the ATM. When I pull up the picture of you, it will just be emabarrassing for you. Secondly, if I do pull up your picture, please do not try to weezle out by saying "oh, that's not me!" Yes, it is...you're wearing the same outfit! ha!

Look here, I will not be balancing your check book for you! If you can't figure out how to use it correctly, you shouldn't have one!

Also, please stop harrassing me...do you realize I have your entire financial history at my fingertips?

P.S., I know where you live.

Lol
