duke lax accuser gets her degree in police psychology

The exotic dancer who falsely accused the Duke Lacrosse Players in 2006 has gotten her bacherlor's degree in Police Psychology.
Perhaps I missed this when I was on vacation last week, so pardon me if I am late, but Crystal Mangum, the woman who accused members of Duke's Lacrosse team of rape has received her degree (in all things) in Police Psychology.
As you can guess, the news was not received well by some folks in the Duke community:
Duke Basketball Report: Crystal Mangum Given Her Degree
we immediately went to look up NCCU’s honor code, and the first story we saw was the column by Butler, where she explained that the honor code fairly specifically mentions “knowingly making in public a false [oral or] written or printed statement with the intent to deceive and/or mislead or injure the character or reputation of another.”
First lesson: NCCU doesn’t care about their honor code because they don’t take it at all seriously.
Second lesson: the university has no sense of irony or idiocy. Why do we say this? Based on Mangum’s degree: the woman who lied to police, who manipulated the investigation, who used the false accusation to score some good narcotics, earned her degree in - wait for it - police psychology.
I would include a more positive article for balance and accuracy, but the N&O's article is the closest I could find after searching for some time on Google.com:
A FAMOUS GRAD: Crystal Gail Mangum, the woman at the root of the Duke lacrosse case and the phony gang-rape allegations dismissed by the state attorney general, was among the graduates Saturday. Mangum, in a cap and gown, flashed a smile to a friend after posing for an official graduation photo with her degree.
Hopefully Mangum has freed herself from drugs, has gotten her act together and can be a good mother and productive member of society. The story that came out after the Duke case fell apart was not pretty: Mangum's was drug-addled that night, so high she could barely walk and that she related events that never happened and changed her story on several ocassions.
On the other hand, the Duke Basketball Report column does have some credence: if Mangum blatantly violated the honor code at NC Central, why were there no reprecussions for her there, and why was she allowed to continue her college career? In the long run, Mangum damaged more reputations than her own. Forget Mike Nifong, he did what he did to himself.
The Duke players, on the other hand, suffered immensely because of the lies that Mangum told. No, they are not choirboys, but they certainly were not rapists. Mangum said they were and put them through incredible scorn and scrutiny until the facts were discovered. In a fair and just world, that would count for something. NC Central, being the ivory tower institution that it is failed miserably in claiming the moral high ground where Mangum is concerned.
