madder than a.. i don't know what....
Published May. 15, 2008I'd love to know if anyone else has had this experience....
I absolutely cannot stand my primary care doctor. Not her - but her assistance and her office. I've lost all confidence there so I moved. When I was there 3 weeks ago I asked them what I needed to do about my records to move. They said "You can pay $10 for us to copy all your records and come pick them us OR you can have the new doctor fax us a release request and we'll send them the records.".
So I see the new Doctor today. I sign a release and they fax it. I get home from work and there is a message on my machine from the old doctor. "We got the fax from the new doctor office but we are not going to release these records until you come down and pay the $10 fee".
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF..
I know about the Fee to gather your records for yourself. That got put in with all that Heppa mess that has made things worse actually. I've had to do that before.
If they were going to charge me a fee regardless - don't you think it would have been SMART to tell me this UP FRONT so that I could have paid while I was there???? NOT till after the fact so that I have to Drive all the way back to them (because they don't accept checks - so I can't mail it).
Has anyone else experienced having to pay a $10 fee just to have one doctor get records from another one of your doctors??
Also, this office charges you a visit EVEN if it is a return follow up visit for labs. I"ve NEVER experienced that. I called my insurance company and found out they aren't billing it as a "follow up" they bill it as a full fledge office visit.
ALL THIS and when I go I NEVER wait less than 2 hours to be seen. Usually 1.25 hours in the waiting room and another 30 to 45 min in the actually room I'll see the doctor. ...
Oh yeah.. I'm REALLY Angry. And when discussing this, the "assistant Office manager" had the nerve to tell me "we can charge whatever we want to, we are within our legal right".
I reminded him that the DOCTOR HER SELF told me not to worry about the fee if the new doctor faxed over the request. His response? Well the Office manager is in charge and makes the decision. and I'm like "OMG, it is HER practice!!".
WOW... depending on how this all works out, I most likely will be posting another blog tomorrow exactly WHO NOT TO SEE for Doctor care.

And to me? The point is that I ASKED. I point blank asked what I needed to do. I followed the instructions of the choices I was given. They NOW say that "never could have happened".
Either way it is being "investigated" LOL what a joke. The asst office manager is calling me tomorrow.
The correct action - regardless of what their "policy" is, would be to follow what I was told.
If they insist on making me pay, then I'll just tell them they need to reimburse me for my gas. But I REALLY LIKE what one of you suggested - I think I"ll also bill them for the 3 hours I sat at my last visit waiting. Between that and the gas, it is easily $65 - so they can choose to split the difference and give me $55 or waive the fee all together.
