perfect for today!
Published May. 15, 2008I think the dems are still blaming the Swiftboat Vets for Kerry's loss, so they're overly-defensive - just in case...
BTW - Obama seems to be every bit the snob Kerry was, so I don't think crying "foul" at every turn is going to help make him "look" like a man of the people, much less a strong leader - quite the opposite.

That would be 'spittle'...but actually, no... do you drool when Hannity comes on? ;)
I would never rely on any pundit as the sole source for forming an opinion. I listen to sources like these merely as a starting point. I'm slogging through the transcript of this interview that was so definitive for you - the c-span video links have all been dead so far, so I've only seen short segments on YouTube. Cavett is 'dish-rag' limp as a moderator. O'neill is definitely dominating the conversation, repeatedly interrupting Cavett (and sometimes Kerry) His belligerent style is causing Kerry to seem halting and unsure of himself, but when he (Kerry) gets a chance to speak, his preparation shows. O'neill dominates the visual version, but Kerry looks better in the transcript so far. What makes me laugh most are the corny transitions from Cavett when it's time for a word from one of his sponsors! :-)

In case you missed it - I made MY decision based on watching the original debate...you can't trust ANY pundits - on either side of the aisle...Surely you know that...the best place to get to the truth on most things political is on c-span. I started relying on it, after watching the house and senate in session and then hearing the lies told about them on ALL the networks. There isn't a single one that isn't biased. The only downside, is there are hours and hours of politicians droning on, but at least you can see for yourself, what's happening. Try it, if you can. I'm in an unusual situation in that I can have my TV on in my office, a habit I started on 9-11.

I will track it down and watch it. Like any hotly-contested topic, (again) pundits are mostly divided down party lines. You have given me the "Fox News" version, whereas on the opposite end there are articles with background like this one:

Frankly, when the O'neill/Kerry debate first ran on Dick Cavett in 1971, I was too young to stay up and watch it, or I might have seen the piece already ;) O'neill's pedigree (from Nixon/Colson onward) lends no creedence to his veracity in an anti-war discussion.

How did you?
Here again, I do not profess to be a John Kerry fan, but the evidence used by his detractors to dismiss him seems to fall right down party lines...detailed hearings and a trial would be necessary to prove or disprove the allegations against him. What tends to discount the testimony of these "swift boat vets" is that they magically crawled out of the woodwork in time to help sink his presidential aspirations, then magically evaporated after the contest was decided. If they were speaking the truth they should have been demanding that he answer the charges well in advance of his political prominence. As to his controversial '71 testimony. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I don't believe he would allow himself to be totally conscripted by the radical left into complete perjury. It would have been easier for him to sidestep the whole mess.

LOL....
I know full well neither I nor anyone else will 'ever' be allowed to have "the last word" in one of your political blogs. You will dig as deeply as you feel necessary to find the appropriate bile. Don't worry, your reputation with your "fanbase" (read: coterie of sycophants) is safe. ;-)
