homeland security presidential directive/hspd-19
Published May. 14, 2008This morning I sat down to a new (for me) breakfast bar and ordered the "Harley" breakfast. Some of you will cringe, others will know now why I'm calorically chalenged, but those three scrambled eggs, hash browns drenched with red eye gravy, two huge slabs of country ham and four pieces of dry toast (we have to do what we can to cut calories) & a glass of water with lemon really took the sting out of working the first night of graveyard shift. ;)
Opened the Fed'vul Absuvuh (Fayetteville Observer for those born north of the Mason-Dixon line), and was entranced by a story on the training of local and state law enforcement personnel on how to deal with IED's. That's such a scary thought. That our leo's have to worry about how to deal with those horrific weapons of aimless death and destruction that now are killing our young men and women in far away lands...but will eventually become just as commonplace over here. At home. So scary.
Buried deep in the story was one obscure reference to something called Presidential Directive 19. I'd never heard of it or I can't remember ever hearing of it. So I searched (Thank Goodness for Google) and found the link below which will be well worth five minutes of your time to read and reflect on. Reflect on the implications of what these events when they start taking place on our streets and highways, in our towns and cities, reflect on how our society will be transformed by that constant nearness of Death by the roadside.
According to the article, more than 30 departments were at the event at the Crown Center in Fayetteville. They came from across the state and the nation. Experts showed them examples of the equipment and techniques our military now use in those far off war zones. Equipment and techniques they will need to know here at home to protect us from the demons that are scheming and planning to deliver their death quest to our shores.
I believe we're in the beginnings of a never ending war that will be as constant as the peaceful tranquility we've enjoyed in this nation up to this point in time, while other lands writhed and convulsed with IED's aimed at their markeplaces, their trains and buses, their personal vehicles, their homes, the schools of their children. We are not immune. To believe we will continue as we have done till now and that these purveyors of death and destruction will be content to do their worse "over there" is akin to believing in the Tooth Faerie and Peter Cottontail.

Sounds tasty--but are you sure you're getting enough sodium in your diet?
