Chip and his friend and climbing partner Vance decided to sleep up at Camp 3 in order to acclimatize. They awoke the next morning with Christmas in the air (figuratively, not literally!). The new snow had covered Everest like a fresh white blanket. Unfortunately, the winds then picked up significantly, forcing all teams to turn back from their climb towards Camp 3 and head back to Camp 2. The next day the weather improved, and Chip and Vance are back at Base Camp. They will then get 5-7 days of rest before setting out for a summit attempt.
