where are they?
Published May. 13, 2008Has anyone seen the hummingbirds come back? I thought they'd be here by now. I'm in Clayton and had bunches of them last year around this time.

Once the females arrive, and then all the babies, it will be like bees swarming on our deck. Even guests & friends are surprised at how bold they are in their comings & goings to & from the feeders.
We love them & they keep us entranced for months until late Sept. or so.

One good place to ask would be the Carolina Birding Mail List: http://www.duke.edu/~cwcook/cbirds.html

Remember to start off with a 3 to 1 mix (water to sugar) to first attract the hummers, and then drop back to 4 to 1 standard once you have them coming. Change it every 4 days roughly, so it doesn't go bad. Come the HOT weather it may have to be changed more frequently.
