boredom - day 1
Published May. 13, 2008I'm somewhat at a loss, given that today is the first real day of retirement for me.
I haven't really figured out creative ways to fill up the time yet. We move later in the year, but until then, it's really to some degree "Ok, I'm awake now. What do I do??"
I decided the first thing was to have a Bloody (or a few) and think on the matter a little. I feel somewhat better about it now. :-D

Congrats on your retirement. You have earned it!

Congrats from me too on your retirement. I'm pretty close to it myself & haven't figured out how to handle it either. Will probably work - have started a couple of businesses out of my home that could keep me busy. I'd like some chance to travel & take it easy, but I'm not much for doing nothing or being lazy. I envy you being able to move to & live in Europe.
A lot of the suggestions are good ones for a retired life, some of which I intend to follow myself.
I wish you and the missus well in your new endeavor.

Possibly, although I suspect that Dr. Mrs. might have some objections to that at first. In a few years maybe.
Not a worry, really. I've been a moderate drinker all my life, so I don't see that changing.

Speaking honestly, I'm mixed on it. I've spent so many years devoted to my work that it's somewhat saddening to leave it. On the other hand, I'm 70, and it's time. She's tolerated me remaining at work for a few years now, and she's entitled to some fun instead of waiting for me to get motivated.
Belgium has some interesting politics. There's great division between the Dutch and French parts, but the populace is involved in politics in a way that isn't seen here, which is refreshing. Belgium also has mandatory voting. All eligible voters must vote, which I think is sort of good.

Actually, after a while you'll get your bearings and want to work in some fashion. Maybe teach or advise at a university there? You got too much smarts not to share. And don't get too fond of those Bloody Marys...
