A second omission was by the bar itself, which hasn't yet posted the censor in over a month... www.ncbar.com
"The censure doesn't affect Rosen's license to practice law, but the disciplinary panel encouraged him to "ponder this censure, recognize the error that you have made, and that you will never again allow yourself to depart from adherence to the high ethical standards of the legal profession." "
The Rosen firm advertises on WUNC all the time, where it's ad makes divorce seem like the "right thing to do, when done right" --- all very British-stiff-upper-lip and all in attitude.
The complaints make the firm seem money hungry and full of salesmanship, the way it comes across on WUNC -- takes a case out of county (what's the big deal there?) and uses one lawyer to 'make the sale' and another to do the deal, sorta tricking the client, I guess.
The worst sounding matter was Rosen's firm "doing initial consultations with people only to represent their estranged spouses later, creating a conflict of interest." That doesn't sound like Perry Mason. (WRAL didn't mention that one)
For those of you interested in getting a divorce, Rosen charges flat rates, not hourly, and a case handled out of court goes for $6000-$10,000 and court cases go for $35,000 to $40,000, according to the N&O, which has much better coverage than WRAL, and they have Rosen's pix. (looks like a guy who would have a manicure)
Rosen's defense is that local lawyers are jealous of his practice and he minimizes the bar's action as just the bar's "way of clarifying his office's business model." (pretty cool choice of words-- Thomas Wright should thought of that one)
Noboby cares for those who capitalize on the misery and tragedy of others, such as undertakers and divorce lawyers (remember Frazer picked a divorce lawyer to have Daphne jilt at the alter b/c no one would sympathize with him), but like the garbage man, when you need them, they are there to take it away and bury it, for a fee. I'll bet I could write a movie script from Rosen's life.
Bottom line is that no one wants a NICE, polite, spell-it-out d-i-v-o-r-c-e lawyer, and Rosen knows that and keeps his guillotine sharper than a surgeon's scalpel. Divorce is not a pretty business, and it is dirty as sin before it gets to Rosen et al.
A good motto to have over the divorce attorney, ax man's and other's doorways is "Better a horrible end than horrors without end."
Comparing and contrasting the coverage by WRAL and the N&O is interesting. Makes you wonder about why?

It's true that a couple can handle an uncontested divorce, with equitable settlement already determined and agreed upon, pro se. It's when there's rancor or disagreement involved that it gets complicated and an attorney is helpful. That said, this guy's business practices aren't something I'd feel comfortable being associated with.

I can't believe it costs that much to get a divorce! No wonder they say folks who get divorced generally end up with much, much less by retirement.
