2 people killed in motorcycle crash

Published May. 10, 2008

Two people were killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday evening in Johnston County.

There have been some disappointing posts about this story on WRALs blog. We don't need to discuss who is at fault or how to properly lay a motorcycle down ect. ect......it happened none the less. I can tell you all about motorcycles both sport bike and Harley cruisers since I own and ride both but I'll spare you for now.

I didn't know Tommy but I knew Brittany, her sister, and parents from church. She comes from a wonderful family. Her Mom and Dad always ensured the kids were in church on Sunday, something many familes rarely find time to do anymore. I'm sure they all will be rewarded some day. For now I pray to God to give them the strength to continue.

I too have an 18 year old daughter oddly enough named Brittnye. As with all parents every once in a while it crosses my mind "what if my child dies before me?". Then you get a sick feeling in your stomach just thinking about it.
We live near Archer's Lodge fire department. Brittnye leaves the house for school every morning around 7am and I go out to retrieve the paper. On several occations after she has left I have heard the fire department siren go off and my mind starts wondering. Every time this happens I rush in to pick up the phone to call her on her cell to see if she's alright.
I have to watch every morning to make sure my 10 yr old boy gets on the bus ok. It may be weird to some but the bus stops in front of the house with the door facing the other side. I have to see his feet leave the ground getting on the bus and his silhouette walking to the back of the bus.
I know we can't always be there to pick them up when they fall or stand up and fight for them. I want to believe they just are strong enough to take care of themselves.
Being a parent is just plain hard.

Please pray for all involved especially Brittany's sister and parents.

"I spoke to my gf as I read this on-line earlier. The person at fault was a 69 yr old man in a truck at 8pm. I luv bikers, but there are no minor accidents when it involves a 4 wheeled vehicle. The cars/trucks are almost always at fault... bikers beware. Two people are dead, and at most, he will get a $50 fine."

You really have no clue about what you're talking about here. If the investigation reveals that the bikes were speeding, it could be a whole different scenario. Without having seen any of the evidence yourself, I would suggest waiting until it comes out. Having said that, if its revealed that the bikes were not speeding, then it could very well be the truck driver will be charged with failure to yield, and possibly misdemeanor death by vehicle. Hate to tell ya, but that's not a 50 dollar fine.

I do the same thing with my daughter, she is 18 also, and she knew Brittany. I hope this tragedy will have some good come out of it. Please teenagers...slow down and put Christ in your life.

My thoughts and prayers for the families involved. I haven't read it yet, but anytime a young live is lost, it is a tragedy. We cannot carry our children around in our pockets or they will never be prepared for the life that is ahead of them. I am thankful that I was able to raise my kid in the 70's-early 90's instead of today. They have so much more things out there to tempt them than when my son was growing up. Just like my son had more to contend with than I growing up. Children on youth seem to forget that they are not invincible....

This was a horribly tragic loss for the families of all those kids. My heart goes out to them and I say a little prayer for them every time I drive past that road.

Unfortunatly, I know this pain and nightmare all to well, I lost my son CJ 5 years ago this month. Just 5 days after graduating H.S. I am so sorry for this family pain and heartache! Right now, they are wondering how the world continues to go on, when their world has crashed. It is the hardest thing in the world to do, to have to bury the child you brought into this world. We all expect one day to have to bury our parents and have our children bury us, we never really, I mean really contemplate having to bury our own children. As I tell everyone, the greatest gift my son CJ gave me was knowing that he was a born again christian, and that this seperation is not permanant. So many people do not have that reassurance. I really don't believe I could have made it through this nightmare had I not had that assurance. My prayers go out to this family, I pray them a peace that passes understanding. Continue to hold onto and love your child, that is the best any of us can do.

Prayers are being offered up. This was tragic.

Hey, btw. I am right down the road from ya (near Percy's Groc.).

After volunteer work for over 20 years in fire and rescue..... there is no such this as a good accident, crash, heart attack, or anything else for that matter.... People have gotten blinded by their own agendas and some one riding a motorcycle is very vulnerable..... I gave it up - I don't mind a good trail ride and live in the boondocks ( no traffic ) so I can go just about anywhere in a 6 or 8 miles from the house. I am sorry this happened - bikers beware - invest in the 'pulse lights' .

Remember that if you crash an airplane or touch it down the definition to a good landing is one you can "walk away from".

Same thing goes for a bike....

Yep. You hit the nail on the head. Being a parent has actually brought me to the point of being paranoid at times. My kids mean the world to me. My husband says I need medication....

I no longer fly, I'm scared of bedbugs in hotel rooms, I don't want to drive over a bridge over water and the list goes on...

Did not hear about this. Will pray for this family.
