the right to vote

Published May. 7, 2008

Ok, here's the wild words I heard from a Co-Worker yesterday after work. Our usual carpool conversation turned to the Voting as she asked me if I had voted in the Primaries. (I don't vote in those as I don't see a real need for it personally but that's besides teh point. She expressed to me that people where being told at her polling place that if they didn't vote yesterday, that they would not be allowed to vote in the General election in november. I told her that was asinine and the person telling folks that was dead wrong. Has anyone else gotten this sort of thing from their polling place or heard of it? I'm just curious what would posess these morons to say such things.

You have the right to vote, and you have the right to vote even if they can't find your voter registration information (provided you have reasonable proof of citizenship and place of residence), and no one is allowed to deny you this right under any circumstance..well within reason that is. Too many people I think are so un-educated about the election and voting process that other people tend to say whatever they want and the general gullability of others allows them to get away with it.

Reading is knowledge, Knowledge is power, Voteing is YOUR RIGHT...as long as you are here legally and a US citizen.

As a Republican, the Primary was big for me if for nothing other than the Governor nomination. I figure if I didn't vote, I couldn't complain. I think too many people made light of the primary because all the focus has been on the Democratic Presidential nomination, but the Governors race is just as important to me.

Lot's of republicans did not vote in the primary mainly because, at least, in Durham County there was very little on the republican ballott. They will get out and vote in November because of the Presidential election. There are people that only vote when there is a vote for President. As long as you have registered to vote, you can't be denied the right. When you skip years and elections you may find that your voting place has been moved but you can either go to the new place or vote a provisional, but you can always vote.

TY all for the information. oneday8035 as an election official can you confirm what Gingerleigh225 posted about not being able to vote if you haven't voted in awhile and don't vote in the Primary. According to how I understood what I read, you don't have to vote the primary in order to vote in the General election in November, regardless of affiliation or time between votes.

I am an election official and you can vote in any election as long as you are registered before the cut off date. You can vote in the primary at 17 if you will be 18 before the cut off date for the general election. You may also vote provisional in any location as long as you are a registered voter. The big thing that we had trouble with yesterday was people wanting to change their party affiliation and that can't be done on election day.

con amor - it is true. My daughter just turned 18 and missed it by just a few days. But you can vote in the next one.

Deadlines to Register to vote in North Carolina The deadline to register to vote in this State is 25 days before the day of the election. Forms that are received by the county board of elections office or postmarked by the deadline are accepted as valid applications for the upcoming election. Also, agency and DMV voter registration transactions that are completed by the deadline are accepted as valid for the upcoming election. Applicants will be notified by the county board of elections of their precinct and polling place assignments.

Check with your board of elections but I believe that if you haven't voted in a while that, yes, you must vote in the primary in order to vote in the general...she was sort of right. Also, for Con, my friend just registered to vote for the first time ever last wednesday or thursday and went straight away to vote early.

I have never voted in the primaries b4 and have always voted in the general elections. sounds like said co-worker is full of it...

con amor- you may have been too late, but look on the board of elections site to see if it was true.

I just registered to vote two weeks ago. I was told that I could not vote yesterday because I waited too late to register. ?was this rue?
