I'm truly sorry WRAL chose Carter Wrenn (Jesse's henchman) to comment. However, his characterization of Obama's speech on restoration of the true American ideals as "shoveling that rhetoric" is the perfect illustration of how depraved the ultra conservative wing of the Republican Party has fallen. I do hope they can't get back up!

"Gobbledygoop (sp change to appease censor) on turkey eyes - uh, cool! So true and applicable." AmDream GOLO member since May 6, 2008 May 7, 2008 12:01 a.m.

Is that code for something? ;)

elcid--I figured it would take a while to read it! It did for me--didn't help that my husband kept trying to discuss it while I was still reading it. I thought it was a very good article. I'm glad you took the time! It actually put a lot into perspective for me. It's hard to "get over" the fact that we are not number 1 anymore and accept a global economy. I couldn't believe that China, India and Brazil are still not members of the G8.

I did read and enjoy it. Sorry for not acknowledging that in the other blog. Zakaria always has an interesting perspective on most any subject.

Amdream--I give you credit. Your first blog and you're being a good host! I'm still amazed at the people that voted Bush into office...twice. The first four years weren't enough???

My husband sent me an excellent link last night. I gave it to elcid but I don't know if he ever read it. It's long but good.

Kind of ironic that you opened an account tonight.

"Superdelegates. Where they invented by the electorial college folks or the Jeffersonian wisdom that we the people really don't have enough sense to govern ourselves? It will be interesting. I do just hope it doesn't end up with us suffering Bush's third term via McCain. Remember Dr. Strangelove?"

They were a response to the consequences of the McGovern-Fraser Commission being implemented in 1968. The feeling was that too much authority had been ceded to the electorate, as demonstrated in the weakened campaigns of McGovern and Carter. To rectify that situation, superdelegates were created in order to restore some degree of balance between the electorate and party leadership regarding input into the nomination.

It won't matter much if McCain does get elected. He's likely to be facing an increased Dem majority in both houses, so he'll be neutered to some extent from day one.

Superdelegates. Where they invented by the electorial college folks or the Jeffersonian wisdom that we the people really don't have enough sense to govern ourselves? It will be interesting. I do just hope it doesn't end up with us suffering Bush's third term via McCain. Remember Dr. Strangelove?

"What happens if Obama wins more delegates but the superdelegates back Hillary and give her the nomination?"

See below. They still hate Republicans more than they hate the other Dem. It'll just serve to give them some anger to channel at McCain in November.

What happens if Obama wins more delegates but the superdelegates back Hillary and give her the nomination?

Is that a new blog topic?

Well stated elcid89. Apathy is our worst cancer! My hope is that experience is not always a good thing. Listening to Michelle Obama, I was impressed with how in touch they are with the world situation. They have dogs in many of the fights around the world, and maybe not knowing what can't be done is not a bad thing? Enough hope for one night anyway.

"- and with McCain a lock, a Democratic floor fight is a lose, lose, lose (Obama, Clinton, America) situation."

Not necessarily. It keeps the base revved up leading up to the convention, and afterwards, the resultant anger at one candidate by necessity not being nominated can then be redirected at McCain and Republicans. I'd much rather have a pi ssed off base than an apathetic one, if I had to choose between the two.
