the death of brian, fin. now to the other end....
Published May. 5, 2008Ten days out and Brian finally gave it up. Last night Brian apparently fell off. Finally. There was some pushing, a bunch of blood, and things got immediately better. And I have stayed that way all night long. I was a bit concerned at first since there was something obviously going on, but it was the strange feeling, not the blood, that bothered me. I was told to expect that when Brian left me forever and anyway, given my fondness for power tools, I am used to blood.
Now, here's a piece of advice for you folks.
If you ever have a hemorrhoid removed on a Friday, it is not a good idea to have a molar extracted and two titanium implants inserted on the following Wednesday. I really have no idea what I was thinking when I set this all up. I never realized that having two, half-inch titanium screws torqued into my jawbone would hurt so bad. Then again, it may not be the actual implants that hurt. See, I may have developed a dry socket where the molar was extracted, Unfortunately, I can not tell since there is a temporary bridge now spanning both those screws and the molar extraction was right in between them, hidden under the bridge.
I do know that my oral surgeon, normally a very nice and funny guy with world-class skills, turned into Dr. Mengele when he was giving me the shots of novacaine. After the fifth shot, I mentioned to him again that I have a very high tolerance for pain and he probably needed to stop that. He ignored me and proceded to jab my mouth five more times in places where needles should not go. Not that it mattered since after the first shot I was numb anyway. But noooooo, he had to persist.
Now, that's some tight tissue down there around the teeth and jaw, not meant to have uncompressable liquids injected into it. Yet, inject he did. The swelling has gone down significantly over the past five days, but I am still having trouble chewing on the left side. So no work today. Oh, not office work, but more dental work.
See, in my infinite wisdom, I decided it would be a great idea now that the left side is in and protected by a bridge, to have the lower right three molars extracted, the bone grafts put in place, and prep for the three implants on that side. My thinking was that if the left is done, I can eat on that side while the right heals over the next three months or do, ready to accept the titanium screws.
Not gonna happen.
I'm going to wait until the left side is completely painless before anyone touches my mouth again.
I will, however, keep y'all posted on the progress of the titanium twins, Timmy and Tommy, as the healing process continues. This whole thing really is amazing, When it is all said and done, I will have permenent teeth with no bridges. Better yet, implants eliminate all chance of periodontal disease. Very cool. And the best news is that when I went to the courthouse on Friday to pick up some papers, I didn't even set off the metal detectors.
HA!
