raggedy: blog ragann8's blog
just my 2 cents
Published May. 1, 2008Since today is protest day I thought I would share a story. I work with a Filipino Nurse. She is wonderful. She filled out paperwork and waited 5 years to come here (was allowed to come early due to nursing shortage). She was already married. Her husband waited a total of 7 years to come here. They both have jobs. They have children. They have a nice home. They pay taxes. They have insurance.
And the moral of my story is:
1) They are here legally.
2)They pay taxes.
3) They did not get WIC and food stamps, they took care of their own.
4) They are getting no help from the welfare system.
And the real moral of my story is: this family is costing me nothing, as a matter of fact they are productive citizens. Now when these ILLEGALS want to come here, the right way, pay taxes, take care of their own so that it costs me nothing, and be productive citizens I will gladly shake their hand and welcome them. Until then GO HOME.

Just to prove my point. Let's not lump a whole nationality into one stereotype.

What I think is that there is NEVER a wrong time to do the right thing and there is NEVER a right time to do the wrong thing.
If we would begin to do what is right (not what will get votes from specific demographics) There would be a season of pain while our country adjusted. But I believe, with all of my heart, that if we began to do what is right that things would begin to self-correct and the stage would be set for us to begin to prosper as a nation once again.
Proverbs 29:2 "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn."
Look at the last 232 years and tell me you don't see the Truth of this Scripture working in America.

America is the Land of Golden Opportunity for many around the world and we can help a lot of people but we can't help everyone, and we certainly can't help them all at the same time.
Let me make a crude example, from a negative perspective.
Immigrants are like air pollution. In controlled amounts we can handle it without too much disruption. But uncontrolled, and the entire environment is poisoned and the people who owned and worked in the polluting factories are now suffering the effects of their own pollution. The extra income they produced by not investing in pollution control measure is now going to health care and they are sick. Nobody is helped.
I'm all in favor of immigration as long as those wanting to come in play by our rules.
IMMIGRATION TO AMERICA IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT! Foreigners should act accordingly.

Boy, you been suckin on some serious liberal kool-aid. You need to get off the straw and dry out before you get so far gone you can't ever come back.
As far as Mexicans, in particular, being fabulous low-wage workers, compared with their natural-born American counterparts... I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Immigration MUST be done at a controlled rate. ANyone not sure about this just needs to extrapolate & accelerate our current situation to where there are 200 million Mexican isn the USA and what do you get?
A Mexico the extends from Guatemala & Belize all the way to Canada and the very thing they were trying to escape from now surrounds all of us.
