house: productive week

First, I would like to say thanks to those who posted comments on my profile interview! It's always nice to see a friendly comment, especially after a long, exhausting week! For those who didn't comment ...
:-P
I love you anyway!!
Well, this has been a very busy week! We have the rough in for the plumbing complete. That was very exciting. We had Chris Massey (out of Four Oaks) do this and he and his crew did a TERRIFIC job!
The hvac installation has begun. We chose the Tempstar, 14 seer (not builder grade, but the step up). Wall Mechanical is doing the installation and again, what a great job! We have known Ken for a while and think the world of him. He's had his guys out working and they are great as well!
Tomorrow we are getting our first shipment of sheetrock. It will be delivered through the upstairs window in the bonus room. Thank goodness, because I wasn't looking forward to carrying it up sheet by sheet. We are also getting the septic tank installed tomorrow. Just another thing to check off the list. Woo Hoo!!!
We should begin electrical next week once that is complete, we are ready for our rough-in inspection. We are also going to get the final touches complete for the exterior so that we can get the exterior inspection and begin siding. We are meeting with a couple of siding reps over the next few days. Hopefully that will begin soon as well.
Now for the argh!!! We started installing doors. Let me tell you, that is NOT an easy job. This entire process, thus far, has been a lot of hard work, but it's been fun to dig in and learn as we go. However, I have decided that I am NOT cut out for installing doors. It simply makes NO sense to me how to shim that @$%#-ing thing! One might think, it's low here, so shim the opposite corner???? NOPE! You just start sticking shims in whereever looks good and hope the door moves into place. We managed to get one door hung (garage to outside). We haven't given up, but we needed to step back and re-evaluate things before we attempt the main doors.
Other news-we are waiting to hear back from our concrete contactor. I had mentioned previously that our porch is cracking. He has looked at it and we both feel that it's a materials issue-as opposed to installation issue. We are trying to decide what direction we want to go, but we have to do something before we can install the front/kitchen door and siding. I'll post a picture of the porch w/the cracks. If there are any concrete people out there who can tell by a photo, I'd love to have an opinion.
We can now officially say that this house is built with blood, sweat and tears. We've put in so much hard work that the sweat is a given. My mother-in-law tripped and fell a couple of weeks ago. She had her arms full, so landed flat and broke her nose. I felt absolutely AWFUL!!!! The very last thing I want is to have anyone get hurt! She and my father-in-law are the greatest!!!! They have helped us so much - not just on the house, but in general! It made me cry that she got hurt. But true to her nature, she shrugged it off, had the nose set and has continued to pitch in full force. If I've not said it before, allow me now to say that I have the greatest in-laws in the world!!!!
Our busy season for work has begun, so we're finding less time to be at the house working so that we can make the money needed to PAY for it. It's all good, and based on some contracts that are in, we may have to sub more out from this point forward. But we'll still do as much as we can ourselves, as long as it doesn't halt progress! We are SO ready to move in!
Well, that's the latest and greatest!
