take our daughters and sons to work day

Published Apr. 24, 2008

The Mini Wonder is coming to work with me today to recognize the MS Foundation's Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

As a young girl, my mother took me with her so that I could see her, as a woman, in a different role than I was used to seeing her at home. It gave me insight and hope into my future, in which my mother told me I could be anything I wanted to be. And she was right.

I was so happy that the MS Foundation expanded their day to include sons because as strong a woman as I am, I am raising a son whom I adore, and want to raise to respect everyone. Especially women, and especially himself.

So if your kids aren't at work with you today, check out the MS Foundation and see if you can plan to take them with you next year.

We've got a big day planned at my office in downtown Raleigh. The Mini Wonder is going to help us get ready for a big event next weekend, then around lunchtime we're going to walk to lunch somewhere downtown on the mall. We'll check out the capital, the legislative building, the park and the statues honoring our fallen soldiers. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day!

willowdreams - my husband and I used to both telecommute with Nortel Networks and our son was home with us, too. We had a couple of those comments through the years, and they were always so awkward and funny. Sounds like the folks on the call handled it well.

Pooh...are you an anesthesiologist?

All my job would do is put someone to sleep.

I remember the one time I went with my dad to his workplace. He was an upper level administrator with RCA at the time and, in retrospect, I am really glad that he took the day to NOT do his actual job.

We spent hours touring research labs and manufacturing facilities, control centers, and the coolest thing -- the computer room. At that time, it was literally a room -- a huge two story room the size of a house -- that held one of the most powerful computers in the world at the time.

If he had just done what he normally did, I would have been bored to tears watching him push paper and talk on the phone.

cute story...priceless!

awe how great !! my husband works from home so they get taken to work everyday ! One time my daughter snuck off and ran into her fathers office while he was on a confrence call and said DADDY I PEEE PEEED Like a big girl !! he didnt have the phone on mute and all 20 people on the call busted out laughing
