a little of my ms story
Published Apr 22, 2008Views: 183
I am a wife, mother, daughter, friend and "MSer". haha I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in June of 2002. I have MS, but I refuse to let it have me!
I keep my sense of humor about me and try to keep on keepin' on as I always have. I am an energetic go-getter person by nature. MS is a disease that does its best to rob me of that-but I refuse to give in. Sometimes it is hard to be strong, and sometimes I am not strong. However, I look at others with this unpredictable and sometimes crippling disease and feel so thankful that I can still walk, see, be pretty mobile, work, etc. Those are things we all take for granted each and every day.
I am one of those people that seem to have alot of people depending on me, so that is one of the hardest things to cope with when you have a disease that robs you of your strength and stamina at times. There just doesn't seem to be enough of me to go around, ya know what I mean?!?
I have a wonderful family, and friends as well. My workplace has been extremely understanding. And yes, the boss knows I have MS(alot of us hide it as long as we can). I am on a 4 day work week now, and it helps some. I am blessed to have health insurance that provides me with the opportunity to have my weekly injection of Avonex, a medication designed to help stave off the progression of MS. So far, so good. I just had an MRI this month, and guess what?-No new lesions/scarring on my brain! That is wonderful!
After being a single mother for 10 years, and saying I would NEVER marry again, (never say never) I met an extremely handsome and wonderful man and we married in 2001. So, he has had to deal with this from almost the beginning of our marraige. My daughter, on the other hand, who at that time was just 14, had to adjust to "Supermom" being just "Semi-Supermom" at times when I felt like crap. I cannot say how I feel to have such a wonderful support system. My mom is retired and moved a few miles away from us, which is great. She pitches in and helps me out alot. My oldest helps me get the kids to school in the morning, cuz she is a "grown-up" now.....kind of. And in January......... we acquired 2 more children; my husband's two kids are living with us now-they are great kids! That is alot for an old lady of 44 to take on when my oldest is 20, what ya think?!? But I am hangin' in there.
Well that is enough about me for now. I just hope that someone can see this and be inspired by it, somehow see that we all have to sometimes draw from a strength inside we didn't even know we had. Thanks again to all who have shown interest in my blog and have a wonderful day!
