If you want to save the $$ you would spend on Weight Watchers, they have published cookbooks that you can check out of the library for free.

The things that helped me the most to lose weight:

I stopped eating fried food; I started measuring out one level tablespoon of dressing on my salad (dressing is 100% fat) and I started walking.

When you brown hamburger, put it in a colander lined with paper towels and blot off much of the grease, or rinse it under hot water. If you use butter, decrease the portion 10% each week until you reach an amount you're happy with without feeling deprived.

It's the little things like this that make the difference. Good luck!

Did someone say NO FRIED FOODS? I just fried some corn!

Oh well.

Guess I will walk a mile to the mail box.

(Bet you thought I was going to say something else)

mythoughts,

These are all great, and helpful tips. Put them into action and you will be down in no time and you will feel so much better. I lost 50 pounds using the Weight Watchers plan. It helped me a great deal. I am still using it but I no longer have to pay for the program since I have reached my goal weight. If I gain back I will have to pay so it is great incentive not to. It really is a lifestyle change. The secret is not the "Glycemic index". The secret is eat less, eat healthier, and exercise everyday. Good luck on the new you!

Drink water when your thirsty...there is no set amount as it differs from person to person. I'm a sweet tea junky so that is my treat when we go out to eat...but we only eat out every once in a while so...

mythoughts..it took me a while to lose my 'baby weight', best advice is execise and just watch what you eat. Once you lose it all you'll go back to normal. I was almost on bed rest by my third trimester, and had a fondness for snickers..hehe so you can imaine. ;) It just takes time, you'll get there!

What does your current meal plan look like? Give me a list of foods and the time you consume them?

Absolutely no sugar or sweets. Lots of fruits and vegetables, some nuts and bread. A little meat, mostly white, very little red. No softdrinks or fast food. Walk from 3/4 to 1 hour each day.

Take your weight, (say 130) and divide that in half. 65 (ounces). You should drink that much water every day, I lost 23 pounds doing that and not drinking soft drinks. Also, make sure you are getting enough calcium. If you are not, it's harder to lose weight.

i cut out soda all together a year and a half ago

Ugh..I typed this once already and I don't know where it went! I lost 65 pounds with a heart healthy lifestyle change. Basically I learned to cook better at home with fresh ingredients.

I cut out all bleached/enriched flours and only eat whole wheat/whole grain. (Make sure you actually read the ingredient list.) No sugar in the first 5 ingredients (they tell diabetics this same thing), no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils, no saturated fats, no high fructose corn syrup. Pre-packaged food is junk 9 times out of 10. I also walk 45 minutes everyday and either do light weight training or yoga 3 times a week. Of course, I then got pregnant (while on birth control!) and gained it all back. So, I started all over again when my doctor gave the go ahead at 8 week post partum (I had a c-section.) My doctor told me that losing all that weight primed my body to get pregnant so be careful!!! LOL
