The things that helped me the most to lose weight:
I stopped eating fried food; I started measuring out one level tablespoon of dressing on my salad (dressing is 100% fat) and I started walking.
When you brown hamburger, put it in a colander lined with paper towels and blot off much of the grease, or rinse it under hot water. If you use butter, decrease the portion 10% each week until you reach an amount you're happy with without feeling deprived.
It's the little things like this that make the difference. Good luck!

These are all great, and helpful tips. Put them into action and you will be down in no time and you will feel so much better. I lost 50 pounds using the Weight Watchers plan. It helped me a great deal. I am still using it but I no longer have to pay for the program since I have reached my goal weight. If I gain back I will have to pay so it is great incentive not to. It really is a lifestyle change. The secret is not the "Glycemic index". The secret is eat less, eat healthier, and exercise everyday. Good luck on the new you!

I cut out all bleached/enriched flours and only eat whole wheat/whole grain. (Make sure you actually read the ingredient list.) No sugar in the first 5 ingredients (they tell diabetics this same thing), no hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils, no saturated fats, no high fructose corn syrup. Pre-packaged food is junk 9 times out of 10. I also walk 45 minutes everyday and either do light weight training or yoga 3 times a week. Of course, I then got pregnant (while on birth control!) and gained it all back. So, I started all over again when my doctor gave the go ahead at 8 week post partum (I had a c-section.) My doctor told me that losing all that weight primed my body to get pregnant so be careful!!! LOL
