the here and now
Published Apr. 16, 2008You know you've seen the commercial from Hilary about the rising gas prices. However she did not answer the question. The person asked what she was going to do about the rising gas prices. Her answer was about how she would help the US to not be depend on foreign countries and institute more efficent cars...yada yada yada. My question is WHAT CAN THEY DO ABOUT IT NOW????
Diesel in the Butner/Creedmoor area just hit $4.15 and Reg $3.44. By June we will be paying 4.00 for Reg.
I'm sure I'm not the only one living paycheck to paycheck. My husband and I make pretty good money I think. We have a home, 2 vehicles, not to mention insurance, taxes, GAS, inspections, and other necesscities needed. However it takes everything we have to get by.We are lucky to put a little food in the house. The rising cost of everything but income is going to put us Triple P's(paycheck to paycheck peion(sp?) on the street. The bills are paid, but there is nothing left over to go anywhere much less the gas to get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please share your story.
God Bless us all!

We cannot build more power plants because of environmental concerns.
We cannot expand our curent refineries because of environmental concerns.
So when we switch to alternative fuels, there will be some type of environmental concern that will halt it also.

I heard today that rising demand in China and India may offset the decreased demand in the US due to rising prices.
Interesting.
The one benefit of high petroleum prices is that it makes alternative sources more viable economically. With that will come economies of scale -- it often costs 1/2 as much to make 100 of something per unit than it does to make 10. If that happens, we will demand less and less fuel and insulate ourselves from the world market and restore prosperity -- which is based on cheap energy.

Why is gas so expensive? Because we don't have enoughy. How do you make it cheaper? Produce more.
My god, my 6th grader understands this stuff. Yet, for some reason, Congress is having hearings to demand OIL companies explain why they are making money selling OIL.
