why vote for obama?
Published Apr. 16, 2008I don't intend to vote for Obama or Hillary. I will hold my nose and vote for McCain. I don't intend to debate the reasons listed to vote for Obama so please be specific. I can't believe in this country of so many these are our best choices.

Vietnam means way too much for me and many of my buddies who became disillusioned with following, and began to think for ourselves. It meant way too much, seeing, smelling, and touching death. Alcohol and drugs would not remove the memories. Does Vietnam mean anything ? I could write a book. But I prefer to enjoy the flowers which smell sweet, and the life that is now just being born. For yesterday is history, tommorrow is a mystery, and today is all we have. God grant me the serenity to accept what I cannot change, the courage to change what I cannot accept, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Correction: Dude can give a speech.
Off the cuff, he is a moron.
I used to think McCain was DOA, but Obama has changed my mind on that. The question is: which one will implode the worst in the general election?
I am begining to think it is Obama. McCain is going for the middle of the road voters. How is Obama going to shift from Marxist rhetoric to get those voters away from McCain?
Dems are making a HUGE mistake nominating this poltroon.

I'll have to agree on that point. I think the first time I heard him speak was the concession speech for the dem's in 04 (I think). At that time, I thought to myself, I could be looking at the Dem's choice in 2008. In the beginning I thought he sounded an awful lot like Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson.

OK, I'll bite. Reasons he's a consideration for me: The JFK factor: being under 50, he has more cross-age appeal, and is likely to be more in touch with more people.
The Speech factor: dude can speak. He's the new Reagan. He has presence and oratorical skills that haven't been seen in years (nukular? strategery?). The President is our Chief Diplomat, and we're a laughing stock in the wider world. Since we can't afford to keep paying $10 billion/month to 'SuPpoRT OuR TroOpZ!!1!' for another 6 years, it'd help if we can talk our way out of the quagmire we're in.
The Odd-Man factor: he's not a Clinton and he's not a white man supporting the war. He's something new. After a 20 year Bush/Clinton dynasty, I want new. I'm not sure it could be worse, and, for the chance to see new, I'll risk it.
