facts, people!!

Published Apr. 15, 2008

I believe what frustrates me the MOST about this presidential election 'cycle' is hearing that its the 'first' one of anything...

It frustrates me NO END to hear someone say they will vote for either Hillary or Barack because they are 'firsts' DESPITE their politics.  (Which is why I have have  TRIED to not involve the name "Barack Hussien Obama" in my choice *shiver*.)

What if the first black or African American candidate was Lewis Farrakhan and his "Nation of Islam"?

What if the FIRST WOMAN  was Madalyn Murry O'Hair? who said:

"There is no God. There's no heaven. There's no hell. There are no angels. When you die, you go in the ground, the worms eat you."

I happen to be Christian and find that quote disturbing and untrue but believe that folks have a right to DECIDE without being persecuted EITHER way.  And I believe the same thing about gender and race.

 ITS THE POLICY AND FACTS.

What will either of the democrats running for president of these great United States do for me and the majority .. all that I have heard are vague promises of money and programs that will spend the middle class into more poverty?  Universal Healthcare and spending BILLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIONS (yes i read the 'what is a billion blog and LOVED it.) on 'alternative energy' (hello, FOOD COST THROUGH THE ROOF with the corn fed cars!!) What are we doing with ANWAR and our reserves on the coasts? NOTHING!!  meanwhile the government regulates EVERYTHING regarding building more refineries so it will NEVER be done. (Even with all the government land left from the base closings.)

I heard an Obama supporter say that he will have the drawdown of troops done within 15 months of taking office, perhaps leaving a force to protect our embassy in Iraq.   WHAT embassy? The Iraquies have to learn trust in ANY government officials that they VOTE IN since they have been lied to cheated and killed by the previous regime.

And, basically, isn't that what we ALL want in life.. not to be lied to cheated on or killed?  (Life, Liberty and the Pursuit..)

Sorry, venting and rambling badly, again!!

Maybe one of these days I will make some sense.  One can hope.. and that ONE is  ME!!

"LOTS of emotional opinions - but facts are missing."

Please...what facts does any candidate offer before elected? All they offer is promises...no facts.

"They show up at the polls and pull that lever for any number of ignorant reasons, none of which have any bearing in reality"

Still amazes me that people assume only one party has this issue. That is just as ignorant.

You know, the President can't do anything without Congress' approval and Congress can't do anything without the President's approval. Checks and balances.

Everything that happens is not just "The President's" fault. Anything he/she decides to do, Congress has to approve - which means - if they approve something you dont' like - they are EQUALLY as guilty.

Likewise, if Congress tries to pass a bill and POTUS approves it, HE/SHE is just as guilty as Congress.

But you are 100% correct - everyone loves to blame the President.

My personal opinion on it - Bashing President Bush is a fad. It is the "IN" thing to do. People LOVE to badwagon and don't want to be left out. Their IDOL or favorite Actor or actress is doing it, so it must be cool and they must be right...

I am being shown more and more the level of possiblities for people to think for themselves is becoming a Rare thing indeed.

Yes, Congress and the President should work together, but that says nothing about how the people view the successes and failures of a president. Given this is GOLO, I suspect the “people” referenced were Democrats and the President was Bush.

"“I find it amazing just how many people will fault or praise a President and ignore the several hundred people in the Congress.” – whatelseisnew

Are you talking about President Clinton?"

I think he was talking about people in general. The president and the Congress are supposed to work in consultation but with Independence. Read the Constitution for more information.

I am a Ron Paul supporter, but with that said, I will not vote for any of the candidates offered. John McCain is just a continuation of the failed policies of Geo Bush. He will continue the unwinable war, really mess up the economy, will not close the borders, will alienate congress and generally would be a horrible President. I feel Obama and Clinton would be equally as bad. Facts are, the Republicans have messed this country up to the point that it will take many years and generations to get it back to the greatness we have had in the past. These are the facts, we have been living them for the last 7+ years.

“I find it amazing just how many people will fault or praise a President and ignore the several hundred people in the Congress.” – whatelseisnew

Are you talking about President Clinton?

You don't have to settle for what is handed to you. And that is the real problem. Sheba has very solid belifs of what she thinks should happen. But perhaps she has asked he self some of these questions. Maybe non of the politians are offering the true results she, or I or you believe. But we "settle" because that is what is offered to us.

Guess what. It doesn't have to be this way. If enough people said ENOUGH is ENOUGH.. no more! This is a Government FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE and we are fed up! You start listening to us or you are FIRED. We have that right guarenteed to us by the Constitution. To replace a government once it stops being for the people, by the people.

We don't have to "settle"

whatelseisnew - you are right. I can't argue that. But you can still make your decisions based on fact. I have found that often - what I find out to be true - conflicts with my "core beliefs". HAHA Still do!

That's when it is time to re-evaluate. Perhaps the beliefs we hold so dear are the best to be holding on to.

If I know in my heart we should be helping people without questions, protecting innocents, not letting anyone - like the situations that happened to Sheba's Uncle which is unacceptable, happen.

What is the answer. Sometimes, the answer we want - we find by asking the right questions - is not the right answer despite how it may conflict with our core beliefs.

Using the same healthcare system issue. Government controlled health care - long term maynot be the best answer. Does that mean there shouldn't be change? Of course not. Something has to change. Are there other options YES. Better alternatives? YES. And it is OK to send politicians that very message!

tidbit Some strong stuff there. To some degree a lot of people make decisions on core beliefs. When I listen to various candidates talk, I map what they say against my belief system. I also take into account the very important fact that any President has to get things through Congress. I find it amazing just how many people will fault or praise a President and ignore the several hundred people in the Congress. The Democrat controlled Congress has already passed laws that have far reaching effects. Some of these effects will be 10 or 20 years out before people understand whether they were good or bad. In my lifetime, far too many Federal decisions have had bad results. A lot of the horrible social ills we have had their birth during the Johnson administration. We could choose to learn from those mistakes and demand that things be changed. Now the politicians got us where they want us; mostly split down the middle. They sit in Washington and just fight over who sits in the power seats.
