are you into the local music scene?

Published Apr. 8, 2008

Good afternoon GOLO:

Do you love music? Do you support local bands and musical talent? Are you "in tune" with what's happening on the local music scene?

If you are, and you enjoy writing about it, nominate yourself in the comments area below. I can't provide too many details yet but I have word that there's something brewing and I wanted to reach out to the GOLO community with what could likely become an interesting opportunity.

I second The War! I saw them, at Vintage 21 when I took my daughter to a concert (she likes Holiday Parade if Atlanta is going to be considered local). I was pleasantly surprised, and she (age 15) was slightly perturbed that I liked music that she liked!

I get out more than I probably should. I'm generally at punk rock, hardcore, or indie rock shows, usually at the choosing of my, ahem, "special friend," who plays in 3 local bands and is a regular in the triangle music scene. He probably knows more about local music than anyone I know, and has taught me a lot. Most of my friends play in local bands, too, and I try to get to their shows. (Inside information: Jett Rink fans, keep on the lookout for a new project from some former Jett Rinkers). A bunch of my friends in a few different bands are all playing at different places Saturday night. Everyone should go to at least one of them- Twilighter is at the Reservoir in Carrboro, Blood Red River is at Double Down in Raleigh, and the Pneurotics are at Jack Sprat Cafe in Chapel Hill. I love classical music, too, and would love to get to those concerts more. I've actually been thinking about blogging about local music but hadn't got around to it yet.

davido- they put out a video for one of the songs off of the EP, "Sore," it's on some site called Stereogum, I think. I watched it earlier, it's pretty neat.

If you are interested in getting your name out in the music world, see more info on www.ncmusicnetwork.org.

I love going to hear any kind of artist sharing their musical talents, from beginners to the more advanced, any kind of music and at any facility.

I've played at the Berkley a long time ago, it was the 1st place I ever played at. I'm working on some songs with some friends I work with, but we're a long way from being ready to get out.

There are some really happening bands out there! I sadly cannot go to all the shows.

A few loco shout-outs... Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies recently released an EP. Annuals just released their latest EP.

I host a website featuring several local artists in the progressive/electronic vein: National Holographic, Onomata, Ozone Quartet, Smokin' Granny, and others. BitWorksMusic.com

i was at the berkley a few weeks ago. it's a shame king's closed down. and hideaway bbq. that had some promise.

tmed- love the berkley- it has been a long time since i have been there.

What I really meant to get to in my last comment was I would LOVE to do writing about local music.
