meet "pinklady" | the golo profile
Published Apr. 8, 2008
In this week’s GOLO profile, we unveil the “pink” behind Pinklady, and find out what she once gave up, but vows to have again someday. Meet, Pinklady:
Angela: Is Pink your favorite color?
Pinklady: It is. But there’s a story behind that.
Angela: Do tell.
Pinklady: A year ago I started my own Mary Kay business and that’s the color of Mary Kay. Since then everything I’ve done has been “pink” related. And I do like pink too, that helps.
Angela: Oh, a Mary Kay saleswoman, eh?
Pinklady: One of my major goals is to make it a success and take me away from my full time J-O-B? (Note: Yes, she spelled it out.)
Angela: Will that happen in the near future?
Pinklady: It’s very possible. It can happen this year.
Angela: You must be a great sales person.
Pinklady: I interact well with people. I’ve been told I have a bubbly personality and I’m easy to get along with. I think that works to my advantage.
Angela: You recently wrote a blog about traffic. Do you ever get road rage?
Pinklady: Oh my God, Yes. But I keep it to myself. I’m not gonna lie, I am a horrible, horrible driver. Some of the things that go on out there really irritate me.
Angela: So if you’re the horrible driver, is it them or you?
Pinklady: In my mind, it’s them. I like to drive it’s just the commute that gets me. That commuter traffic really gets me.
Angela: What do you like most about GOLO?
Pinklady: Interacting with the people. I go to GOLO for fun and steer clear of the drama. I have enough of that in my real life.
Angela: If you won a million dollars, would you share it with anyone on GOLO?
Pinklady: Yes, there are some people I’ve met that I would not have a problem doing that at all.
Angela: If you could do one thing differently in your life, what would it be?
Pinklady: I would not have gotten married so early and I would have stayed in North Carolina and finished high school here.
Angela: How young were you?
Pinklady: I was 17. It was a few weeks before my 18th birthday.
Angela: What did your parents think about that?
Pinklady: They weren’t happy but my mother realized I was almost legal and there was nothing she could do.
Angela: What if your daughter wants to get married at 17?
Pinklady: She’s past that age, but if she had wanted to I would have given her the wisdom of my experience and hope she would have listened and waited.
Angela: Tell me about that 1972 Gremlin that you seem to be so fond of.
Pinklady: (Laughs) That was my first car and I drove the heck out of it. It was a fun car. I really enjoyed it and often wonder who’s driving the heck out of it now.
Angela: Would you drive it today?
Pinklady: (Laughs) In disguise, maybe.
Angela: Share something with me that most people may not know about you.
Pinklady: I used to have a motorcycle and would love to have another one.
Angela: We may have to hook you up with Old Rebel. What happened to it?
Pinklady: It didn’t take kindly to my husband, and for his safety I had to get rid of it.
I vow to have another one some day.
Angela: You’ll be the first Mary Kay woman on a bike. You could name it The Pink Panther.
Pinklady: Oh yeah, I can get a pink one, and set a new trend. Now I have to change my avatar to a pink panther.
Angela: What’s the most disgusting food you’ve ever eaten and who cooked it?
Pinklady: Something my husband cooked not too long ago. I don’t remember what it was but it was God-awful. It involved chicken. He was trying to copy Emeril, but it didn’t happen. And normally he’s a good cook.
Angela: Have you ever done anything others would consider scandalous?
Pinklady: Scandalous? No. Questionable? Yes. I’ll just say that 1990 was my party year, the year I left my ex-husband and began to really live.
Angela: What do you think you’ll do when you retire?
Pinklady: Travel, and not worry about anything. Do whatever I feel like doing when I get up in the morning. Of course I may have to go alone because my husband is afraid of flying.
Angela: Maybe you’ll take the train?
Pinklady: Maybe he will. I’ll meet him there.
(We both laugh. Pretty hard)
Angela: It’s been fun, Pinklady.
Pinklady: Thank you Thank you. I really enjoyed it.
