coupon organization
Published Mar. 31, 2008I love coupons. I hate paying full price for anything. Thanks to harris teeter and triple coupons last week, I got over $200 worth of groceries for $72.19.
Yes, there are those who are much better than me, but I do what I can!
One of the keys to using coupons effectively is organizing them. If you don't know what coupons you have, how are you going to use them? I used to use ziplocks and envelopes- but even that proved tedious. After seeing my friends coupon binder (what a fantastic idea!) I decided to do the same.
It takes some time to get it initially set up, but once you do, maintaining it is pretty easy!
you will need :
3 ring binder
20 or so notebook dividers
clear plastic divided sleeves (I use a combination of baseball card sleeves, business card holder sleeves and 4x6 photo sleeves. All of these are inexpensive and come with the holes to stick it in your binder!
coupons!
Now I have mine set up to mimic the aisles in the grocery store I most often frequent- which is Food Lion- but you set yours up however it will work best for you. The aisle method works for me because I don't have to flip back and forth between sections- just turn the page for the next aisle.
The binder fits well on the shopping cart seat (except for HArris Teeter, their seats are smaller)
Then, keep an eye on the sales flyers for the stores (Krogers always has double coupons). After awhile you will learn what is a good deal with your coupons and what is not. Don't buy something JUST because you have a coupon (unless it turns out free, which happens quite a bit once you learn how to use those coupons!)

I even took one of the classes on couponing by the lady in Clayton (can't remember her name just now) & bought the organized binder stuff. I still had a time problem in keeping up with all of it & quit. After weeks of couponing, I never saw any triple coupon ads; the one at Lowe's came out AFTER I quit & my coupons were outdated!!!! Working a full-time job & running 2 businesses from home does not leave a lot of time for couponing. I opt for BOGOS & store brands & sales when I see them.
