step aside, heels - this poll ranks duke no. 1 in basketball
Published Mar. 27, 2008I just thought this was interesting. I am in no way saying Duke is better than UNC...they're not...that's pretty obvious at this point :) I just thought it was interesting...I thought it would be completely opposite...

The Duke Blue Devils are back on top in college basketball.
Well, at least in one poll.
The annual Harris Poll asking fans their favorite collegiate men’s and women’s basketball teams has Duke finishing first, ahead of North Carolina, among men's teams. Duke has been first five of the last six years and six times since the poll began in 1993.
Harris Interactive conducted the poll between March 11-18, 2008, sampling of 2,513 nationwide. A total of 611 of the respondents follow college basketball.
North Carolina was second in the poll after finishing first last season for the first time.
On the women’s side, Tennessee and Connecticut finished first and second in the poll, respectively, as they have each of the five years the poll has been in existence. Duke was fourth and North Carolina seventh.
Of course, coaches are fond of saying the only poll that matters is the one at the end of the season. Right now, North Carolina is the No. 1 seed in the men's tournament and the only ACC team remaining. Both UNC and Duke are alive in the women's tournament.

I think they were pulling your string, actually, and you just didn't get the joke. They probably laughed about you biting on that one for the rest of the day.

Sure they're #1. They're the team that the rest of the nation best loves to hate. Hee Hee Hee. Either that, or it's just a sort of name recognition fondness........ you know, the kind of support you get from very fair weather friends.
Okay, enough already..... I'm not surprised by that poll, and it's probably correct, nationwide. It's jes heah in Noth Kurlina where they are the least liked team.
Oops....... I did it again. I really meant to say something nice. :->

I think it is VERY Premature to say Duke has fair weather fans or bandwagon fans...I've never seen it and believe me I have been looking for a Duke fan do this, so I can ream them. I have yet to find or hear of one. On the other hand, I don't have to look for or try to find a UNC fair weather fan...they are everywhere...at least in my neck of the woods. (Smithfield / Goldsboro area) I'm sure this is true in most places other than Chapel Hill.

A few weeks ago (The day before Duke / Carolina game) I was in Sam's Club. I was wearing my Duke pullover proudly. I came across a large group of about 15 Proud Carolina fans. All decked out with their UNC Gear. They started Heckling me for wearing my Duke pull-over. One of them asked "Will you still be wearing that thing tomorrow" I smiled and said "Yes, I'm a fan whether we win or lose". Then I asked him back "Will you be wearing yours tomorrow should you lose?" Without hesitating he said "Heck no, I don't wear any UNC gear win they lose, I only wear this when they're winning!" The whole crowd thought it was the greatest thing ever when he said that and starting giving high fives and celebrating like they just won the National Championship game.
You talk about bandwagon fans...That is the Definition of bandwagon fans. I doubt you'll EVER hear of or see a Duke fan act like that or say anything of the such...

I am grateful to see that a game or their team standing(s) aren't what's important to them, but rather the people within.
