house: slow, but still making progress

It's been a while since I've posted an update on the house, so here it is.  Things slowed down quite a bit through Christmas and January.  Work is beginning to pick up, so we've been busy running the business.  But in spite of our busy schedules, it's still making forward progress.

As you can see from the pic, we've got the front porch mostly complete.  The shingles are on and now we have to decide on our posts and rails.  We'd rather leave it open as it is, but the rules say we must have have pickets/railings or an enclosed wall at rail level.  We are still trying to decide what look we want for the porch.

We had to have a metal post installed into the garage.  That was done this week.  We've met with a window salesman and we've priced at Lowes and Stock Building Supply.  We'll hopefully be making that decision this week and go ahead and place that order.  Windows and doors will drastically change the appearance of the house.

There will be 3 windows upstairs on the front of the house and one on either side of the front door.  There will be a door coming off the right side as you are facing the house (from what will be the kitchen) as well as a new front door in the center.  Once the windows are installed, we will begin siding.  Right now we are teetering between vinyl and hardi-plank.

I have taken several pictures of the house from various angles.  I've also taken some pictures of the cleared yard.  It's so exciting to just stand there and look out across the area and know that one day, my horses will be grazing in pastures while my kids are outside playing.  I'll happily sit on my front porch swing and watch the sunrise or sunset.  *sigh*

I just can't wait!  It's so peaceful there!

Let us all know about the new house party. Looks like lots of room for us to park, and still leave room for the pig cooker. I know you are excited.

Oh don't worry, there will definitely be pig cooking on the cooker (yes, we have one) and maybe even a live band (I have a talented family).

Warm weather is on the way, so you guys can really get things done then. Do you hope to be in by the end of the year, maybe autumn? I know you're excited!

OMG-- It's going to be adorable. I feel like I've been through the birth of your home. This has been unique and very rewarding to see the hard work and progress you and the family and friends have endured on your home. I know you are so going to enjoy it so much more having gone through the "labor pains". You can sit on that porch and say "remember honey when we had to" You all deserve the best from this project.

Exciting.

It's looking great! How exciting. I'd go with hardiplank. Can't kill it.

WOW!!!!

Lookin good!

hardiplank and vinyl both last forever...I guess the difference is in the look, the cost, and the painting issue. Hardi is more durable in a very high wind situation, and more airtight. My low back bothers me some so be sure the porch rockers are user friendly, and built-in can holders would be nice too. Good luck!

How exiting!!!!!

Looks like it's going to be a very nice House. Must admit if there is one thing I like about a house is a Huge Front Porch. Mine is a good size but isn't even close to what your going to have. I'm jealous! LOL - Enjoy your new home.
