college football recruiting
Published Feb. 6, 2008It’s 5:40pm today and NC State has signed 26 football commitments! As far as I know, NC State has now signed ALL of the players that verballed to the Pack, and then some.
Now let’s hope for some pleasant surprises as other players see what is happening in Raleigh and maybe decide they want in on that action!
It appears that Duke has also signed all their "verbals" in their group of 17 recruits. Congrats, Duke! And they signed a four-star quarterback. Looks like that new head coaching hire is already paying dividends as he is known for developing quarterbacks.
Carolina has signed 19, with nine of them being four-star recruits. Not bad!

You said that Miami has signed 33 athletes. Only 25 of those athletes will remain when practice starts in the fall. A school can sign 40 student-athletes to an NLI. That doesn't mean all of those guys have a spot on the squad for a variety of reasons, but it usually is b/c of academics. The Academic Progress Rate (APR) is a new measurement tool being used by the NCAA. APR tracks retention and eligibility of scholarship athletes. There are schools (W. Michigan, GA Southern, and Montana St.) that lost part of the initial scholarship allotment b/c of low APR scores. The three schools I mentioned will not be having 25 initial counters at the start of fall practice. Montana St. will only have 22, GA Southern will only have 21, and W. Michigan will have 23.
I hope I have not confused you even more.

You mean, 25 NEW kids on scholarship? A football team is allowed 85 scholarships, right? What if a school only has 45 scholarships in use? Can they not then sign 40 players and give them ALL scholarships?
