something stinks!!!
Published Feb. 6, 2008Something stinks in the process of selecting the republican nominee...
First of all, McCain won the major liberal states. Liberals love him. What does that tell us?
Huckabee knows he can't win. He should have dropped out. But he supports McCain and knows that by staying in, he will only take delegates from Romney. So he stayed in so as to help McCain. Giuliani is the same, only he knew that he would take votes from McCain, who he also supports. So he dropped out so as to not hurt McCain.
Giuliani came in third in Florida, and Huckabee came in fourth. Yet Giuliani is the one that dropped out and not Huckabee?
West Virginia is different than many states. If a candidate does not get 50% of the vote or better, they allow people to change their votes. Romney won W. Va. with a healthy 40+ percent of the vote. McCain supporters returned to the polls to change their votes to Huckabee, who won West Virginia as a result.
This is a conspiracy to get liberal McCain the republican nomination. But he is no more a republican than Zell Miller was a democrat.
Has anyone else noticed this? Why do Huckabee supporters continue supporting him when he can't win, and they are only helping Sir Liberal McCain???

But it was a close race, wasn't it?"

Well, Bush beat him by roughly 3M popular votes...it was really the Electoral College that made it close. But from what I remember about the campaign, I figured it was over about a week before the polls opened.
Between the Swift Boat group and Kerry just being rather unappealing as a President, I just couldn't see him winning the day. Even with hindsight, I'm of the opinion that as much as Bush has sucked in his second term, Kerry in his first would have probably been worse...especially with Edwards as his sidekick.
But I thought it curious that he didn't even attempt to throw his hat in the ring...and Al Gore didn't either in a year they'll likely win. My money is on the DNC telling them to sit it out.

Exactly...Bob Dole after 1996 (or John Kerry after 2004 to be non-partisan!). Neither of them had anywhere near the influence in their party after their disastrous campaigns that they had before they ran.
I'm quite sure the DNC politely and quietly told John Kerry that boring guys with bums in ivory towers and heads in the clouds like him need not apply...
McCain's age plus the stigma of losing badly in 2008 would pretty much ensure that he would not be permitted to stand in 2012 thus paving the way for the RNC's preferred golden boy to ride in on a white charger to rescue us from the Democrats.
Add to that a Senate minority capable of bringing the government to it's knees...I think they're banking on people being disaffected with four years of inaction to want more "change" even though that was theoretically what they were doing in 2008. :)

I still don't know why people insist on debating about abortion in THIS blog, though.

The November polls are ultimately irrelevant.
The RNC knew McCain has consistently been a wild-card that could not be counted on to toe the party line unless it suited him.
What stopped them from quietly pulling him aside and telling him to stand aside for the good of the party? What was the worst that could happen if he refused? McCain is already a rogue as far as the Republicans are concerned...him being bitter or mounting a pointless third-party bid would hardly make much of a difference!
The RNC has effectively made it clear that as long as they protect an unbreakable obstructionist minority in the Senate, they could care less about your vote or distaste with the candidate.
It's 1964 again! Goldwater versus a guy with a popular dead President in a casket before escalation. Guess who wins!

How so? A baby from rape is exactly the same as one that is wanted by a loving caring couple. Unfortunately it is not the same to most rape victims who have to carry it for 9 months and then give birth to it.....It is a morally untenable position to force a woman to do that and therefore abortion will always be necessary. and since the foetus is the same as that of a girl who gets preganant through carelessness, ignorance or stupidity there is no logical reason to deny them either. This is an issue that need compromise. agruing either extreme will and has changed nothing. Somewhere in the middle there is a position that any reasonable person can live with.

That's why I say I would consider voting for Hillary or Obama. I really will, if McCain gets the nom.
