2008 new year's resolutions from 15 north carolina notables
Published Dec. 31, 2007New Year’s Resolutions are, by nature, a hopeful gesture for the coming year. Some are very personal: “I’m going to have more patience”; and some are magnanimous: “I’m going to make the world a better place.” Some are easy to accomplish: “I am going to bring my lunch from home twice a week”; and then some, like the one I’ve had for the last two years, sometimes seem impossible: “I’m going to find a book agent this year and sell one of my manuscripts”.
But as I said above, resolutions are a hopeful gesture, and everybody's got a little hope in their hearts … somewhere. Even if it’s buried deeply, it’s there.
I’ve been talking with some notable personalities from North Carolina over the past two weeks, who were all happy to share their 2008 New Year’s Resolutions. Whether they still reside here in the ‘ol north state, or hold it dearly in their hearts, they definitely will always call North Carolina home. Don't miss the portrait gallery, 2008 New Year's Resolutions, that goes with this story.

It is my New Year's Resolution to complete the tour, visiting schools in all 40 of the local Communities in Schools chapters and distributing 150,000 books to elementary school children. I think I should also plan on writing a short compilation of all of the funny things young kids ask when I come to visit, like "Do you live in a castle?" or "Do you like pigs in a blanket?". That would be my plan of action for 2008!”
Jessica Jacobs

“To complete and release my new CD “Blue Ridge Reunion” which celebrates my father’s watercolors and other paintings in the NC mountains. I traveled to the vistas that inspired my late father and let the beauty of the land work its magic on me musically. The album will feature 14 new compositions. It is an emotional reunion of spirits in the Tar Heel mountains where, as a child, I played with my toys while my father sketched and painted. To do something nice for someone new every day and not expect anything in return. To spend more time hiking and talking with my family. To carve out more time for silence, prayer and meditation. To keep going to the gym five days a week and working out for an hour each day.”

Ira David Wood III

“This year I want a lot of cool things. I want to learn to do a 720 spin in my go-kart. I want to see a ton of kids come to the ballpark to watch the Bulls, take pictures with me, and race against me (if only I could win). I want to help my team have a great season and win a championship! But most of all, I want to be the most un-BULL-ievable mascot the Triangle has ever seen! Happy Holidays and GO BULLS! I only have a few goals right now, I'm sure more will come.
1.Spend more time with my family. I am SO lucky to have so many live close by! 2.Finish some of these great projects and ideas I've started! 3.Continue to give in as many ways as possible.
It's a bit generic, but that leaves me with a lot of room to make a lot of great accomplishments in those areas :-)

Mine? I suppose to continue working as hard as possible to help my husband with his company and with our house. I try my best to keep up with him, but he's a machine sometimes. He works so hard providing a good home for all of us. I just want to make sure I'm doing my share for him as well!

So, with that said, here's my New Year's resolution. Lose 25 pounds by July by cutting out all fast foods and going on a strict salad diet. I love salads with grilled chicken in them, so this should be possible to do. I want to give more to the needy families that have children (year-round - not just during the holidays). And last, I intend to create a pictorial book on underwater bass. I have the raw footage, but just got to get it together. If I can accomplish these three things, then I will be satisfied with myself in 2008.
