Published Dec. 5, 2007WTVD (abc11) just got a website makeover (along with the rest of the local ABC affiliates). So will long leader of local news website WRAL.com have to step down? Lets compare the features:
WTVD WRAL
Links: on left on top
Logo: top top left
Interactivity: yes, alot some- 5 day forecast
including slideshow on homepage
Commenting
on stories: yes, on yes on bottom of story
bottom of story
Message board: yes, still duh! GOLO!!
converting to new look
Video/pics yes/yes yes/yes
no live vid tho live vid
Updated: yes within 5 min yes within 10-15 minutes
Load time: 5-10 seconds 5 seconds
Overview: While WTVD definatley got a much needed facelift, it doesn't seem like much of a threat to WRAL.com. WRAL still has easier navigation, plus a more "local" feel (golo especially helps this) while ABC11 just seems like another news site. Also, I don't like how WTVD tries to advertise even more with an uneeded animation everytime the homepage loads. Also, some links take a little while to load in WTVDs site.
