good police work
Published Nov 28, 2007The recent news about Samuel Cooper's arrest proves one thing: There are some really bad people among us. Not like I didn't know there are criminals everywhere, but this dude tops them all. Police and prosecutors say they've never seen a case like this. I guess that explains why he wasn't caught sooner.
I'm a bit taken back by the back-patting going on between the agencies involved in the arrest. They credit good investigative work for catching this guy. Good investigative work? From everything I've read, investigators thought two of these murders were connected. Unless they didn't make it publicly known, there's no evidence they thought one person was responsible for all five crimes. In my book, that would have been good police work.
Samuel Cooper is in jail thanks to a man who followed him after a bank robbery. Granted, once police had him in custody, they put 1 and 1 and 1 and 1 and 1 together to get five. Or did they? WRAL's reporting he confessed to the crimes. So what came first-- the investigative work or the confession?
Just my two cents on a crime spree that makes no sense, especially to those families who lost loved ones.

I believe that he has severe mental issues. But that is no excuse for his actions. He should never have been let out of prison.
