The sole answer to the fiscal mess, in my opinion, is a Constitutional Amendment mandating that spending be tied to revenue (which it can't exceed), capping spending at a percentage of GDP and that all discretionary spending be annotated publicly, by line item and sponsor, before being voted on.
That'd be a good start.

The budget can't be balanced. Doing that would require cutting out virtually every social program, slicing the defense budget and completely ending financial support for Iraq (which, incidentally, is off-budget anyway.)
Simple fact of the matter is that we can't grow our way out of the mess we're in. We have to stop borrowing, take the hits and readjust how we live to better fit reality.

You do realize that, with 4% unemployment, there would not be enough domestic workers to fill the void left by those departing workers and the US would suffer an economic hit as a result, correct?
Even if there were, let's face it, few American workers will be content to accept the wages and conditions these people do accept, so in order to pay them what they feel entitled to and subsidize the benefits that immigrants typically are not given, costs go up, prices go up and we all pay more for everything.
There are no simple answers to this.
